"We knew that Spaniards ate late so at around 9:00 pm we headed to Restaurante Carmen which was one of the top rated restaurants in Sanxenxo. When we got there we thought the place was closed until we were told by one of the kitchen staff who was coming from the back that it was indeed open. It’s funny when the server asks you if you had reservations and all but one of the tables is unoccupied. It turned out, 9:00 pm is early and the place closes at 1:00 a.m.! After perusing the menu, we ordered crispy cod on a bed of mashed potatoes as starter, monk fish stew and vegetarian risotto. We told our server, Roberto, that the food was to be shared. So, he brought out one dish at a time, much like a tasting menu, in the order described above. The wine he recommended was an excellent Rioja. I wish we can remember the wine label but we can always go back for another wonderful meal and ask, right? After dinner, Roberto suggested a dessert of coconut ice cream with passion fruit sauce with toasted coconut sprinkled on top. It was to die for! Every item we had was excellent! For those who are curious, the entire dinner 2 glasses of wine, one starter and two entrees, a bottle of still water, bread and a shot of ten year old port cost a reasonable 62 euros."
