For the main course, we ordered the pork chop and the Bayou Teche special. Both were tasty, but they didn’t quite reach the heights of the appetizers. We also had mac and cheese and collard greens as sides, which, like the appetizers, outshone the main dishes.
The cocktails were reasonably priced and enjoyable. Unfortunately, by the time we got to dessert, everything had sold out, so we missed out on trying anything... View all feedback.
What Shannon McCahan doesn't like about Communion Restaurant Bar:
The starters and appetizers were delightful. The deviled eggs featured creative toppings, and the sauce accompanying the clams was simply irresistible. The cocktails were well-balanced and enjoyable. As for the main courses, they were good but somewhat underwhelming. The jambalaya was flavorful, with a nice level of heat and depth. The ginger chicken was juicy but lacked robust flavor. Overall, we thought the entrees... View all feedback.
The food was delicious, and I found it interesting that they informed us we had a 90-minute time limit after being seated. At first, that might sound a bit rushed, but it actually allows patrons to enjoy their meals while keeping things moving, which helps the restaurant accommodate more guests. It’s a smart strategy! You will spend a bit, but it’s definitely worth it for the experience. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this place!
As for the drinks, they were excellent and well-recommended—especially one called “hey tante.” The sushi was decent, but the flavors didn't really stand out. The wings and shrimp toast were quite good, though! Now, here’s where things took a turn: the entrées. We ordered the blackened jambalaya and one other dish that didn't impress. The pork was fine, but both the jambalaya and the other dish were incredibly dry. It was amusing, in a way, because the rice and meat felt like they had been left out and completely dehydrated. Overall, I wouldn't return. Given the prices, I found the experience quite disappointing. Maybe we just happened to choose the wrong night or something, but the start and drinks were great—just didn't translate into the main courses.

As others have mentioned, the prices are a bit high (even by Seattle standards), but I can confidently say it's absolutely worth it.
**Hood Sushi - 3 Stars** This was probably the most disappointing dish of the night. I found the rice to be a bit too mushy for my taste and overly vinegary as well. I prefer sushi that strikes a better balance of flavors. My main issue was that I couldn't taste the fish at all; there was no hint of flavor. It was just a pop, and that was it. **14 Peaceful Chicken Wings - 4.5 Stars** These were served piping hot and were quite good. They had a perfect crunch and were incredibly juicy on the inside. Although they came with a spicy sauce, I didn't find it necessary. **14 Collard Greens with Neck Bone - 4 Stars** This was another solid dish. It was a bit rich for my liking, but not overwhelmingly so. I would have appreciated some rice or cornbread to help balance it out. The meat was very tender and easily fell off the bone. **Overall** This is a pretty good restaurant with decent portion sizes for the price.
There's a reason why it's tough to get a table at this place. The food is amazing, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere is fantastic. It's a family-style dining experience, so bring a group and try a little bit of everything. They serve strong drinks that pair perfectly with their dishes, and the banana pudding comes in an adorable mason jar for you to take home! Be sure to make a reservation in advance or arrive right when they open. You won't be disappointed!
