What Marlene S doesn't like about Old Mill Tavern:
Sheridan is a lovely place to stop when you've decided to get out of the city and see some of the beautiful IL farmland. The Old Mill Tavern is an authentic country restaurant old tools and memorabelia that have been on the walls for years, plastic table cloths, and a menu that mainly consists of fried chicken, fish, and burgers, with cole slaw and macaroni salad for side orders. I had 1/4 light (Perdue) chicken. MMM... View all feedback.
Best chicken ever. Great place with friendly great people. Their Christmas display is unbelievable.
Out in the middle of nowhere. It's an old-school bar. On the weekends, they feature a fried chicken dinner special that is sublime. Nothing fancy. Nothing pretentious. Just incredible Fried Chicken--the colonel be damned. Never et anything else there, except the onion rings, which were as good as the Chicken. And they serve a great iced tea in a great big glass. And it's not going to leave a hole in your wallet either. Service can be slow, but hell, this is a small town-TINY town, actually--It's adagio all the way, so slow your roll honcho and take your time. Worth the ride, trust me... btw, They feature steak on Tuesday nights that's rumored to be as fab as the Chicken for $10
The Place The Old Mill Tavern is located in Sheridan, Illinois not to far off RT71 and by the Fox river. This is an authentic... old country restaurant complete with yesteryear memorabilia, plastic table cloths and even has an old fashioned claw arcade game. The Menu/Food The menu is your classic bar menu featuring some breading recipes from the 40's. Lets face it, not everyday do you see a menu offering a complete liver or gizzard dinner. I've been at the tavern for several of their nightly specials including the Tuesday Night Steak Fry and Wednesday Taco Night. There are also several all you can eat specials. The Steak Fry is fun and the food was good. The taco salad is good and the taco's are as well. The Experience/Service/Value This is a great change of pace place. Our service was a little slow but it was steady. I ordered a mixed drink and there was no complaining about the pour. You can't beat the value!! Give them a try.
OK, this is kind of a quaint classic place in a very small town. The Google map showing where it is at looks a lot busier than the location itself. Went there on a Tuesday night for their steak special. For $8.25 (add $0.25 for sour cream), you get a baked potato and a grilled steak of fairly decent proportion. Great deal. Service was kind of slow, but we had a deck of cards and played gin, so it wasn't a big deal. And I kind of enjoyed just sitting there and soaking up the atmosphere though the old tools referred to in the previous review weren't very evident. We went out to the place using several back road quite the trip. Hope to go there again.
We have been going to the Old Mill for over 4 years now. They have nightly specials. My favorite night is Tuesday (Steak Night). They serve a sizable steak for under $10 with a baked potato. Wednesday night you can buy a taco shell bowl for $5 or other tacos. Friday night fish fry is also good. It is a very casual setting. Sometimes I join my group in work clothes. The staff is personable and works hard to make your meal enjoyable.
