"The best sushi I’ve ever had. Fresh and skillfully made, this family run shop will rival its Tokyo counterparts at a fraction of the cost. Must try is their anago (a close cousin to the unagi) it was so sweet and creamy! Highly recommend visiting here while in the Miyagi prefecture."

"Lunch in Ungai was my first time to experience Buddhist vegetarian shjinryori cooking. The entrance to Ungai is a simple wooden gate next to the entrance to the Entsuin temple. From there you go a little way down to another world. Ungai is divided into a number of small private rooms. The room I was in had a pleasant view of the gardens of Entsuin Temple. The food came in a red lacquered chest. While I did not understand exactly what I had eaten - I had never prepared beans, fruits, vegetables and other dishes in this way, but the presentation was excellent and seasonal light and tasty. I loved trying different varieties of Tofu from what I've ever had. I had cooked with some of the Japanese Sansai and winter vegetables, but never had they prepared in this kind of sesame, miso and other subtle marinades. As a bonus before we left our party was even greeted by Ms. Amano, one of the Priests of the Entsuin Temple. It is nice that this restaurant supports an active temple that is also worth a visit and is a bargain at 300 yen."

"This beautiful traditional Japanese restaurant is hidden in an alleyway, you will recognise it by the little garden in front of the restaurant. Staff is very friendly and helpful, there is one vegan/vegetarian set meal available (please check if the tempura is vegan). The set meal comes with a lot of different small dishes which are very tasty and different in flavour and preparetion, e.g. pickles, soup, simmered veggies, tofu, salad etc."
