This restaurant is a gem! The folks are very friendly and the food is as good Thai as I have eaten outside of Thailand itself! I've tried so many of their meals but their Chon Tong Pad Thai is my favourite and is delicious! The cook, Nok, is especially interested in your dining experience and offers sample bites of other dishes whenever I am in the restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant without any hesitation. I decided to try another Thai Restaurant tonight and talk about disappointed. The food was expensive and although I asked for very mild, duck curry, it was, as has been the case when I order mild curry at most Thai restaurants, way too spicy for my palate.Last Saturday a friend and myself dined here. it was my first actual dine in experience. I usually order the lunch special (Ummmm) or the Tom Kha Gai soup to go. We started with a large Tom Kha Gai Soup which is the best I have ever eaten here or in Winnipeg where I come from. Now the next delectable dish was Prawns Chu Chee. Oh MY; the succulent prawns, perfectly done (and I do mean perfect) with an amazing red curry that was perfectly spiced to my liking. I was in gastronomic heaven! The pad Thai was very good as well. Their Chon Tong Pad Thai is also superb. We also had two Vietnamese iced coffees and the entire bill was only $44. The substandard , similar food I ordered tonight from an unmentionable Thai restaurant (No it was not Sabu Thai) was $46. with no iced coffees. For excellent Thai Food, GO ONLY to Chon Thai Restaurant and pass on the rest.My previous review gets into more elaborate descriptions
This outwardly unassuming little Thai restaurant is a little treasure. First, physically, the interior is appealing visually and the bathroom is spotless. The food is excellent with very generous portions. I had pad thai spring rolls to start, and Prawn Pad Thai for my main course. It was beautifully seasoned (mild as asked for) and reasonably priced. In fact, dinner for two (including a glass of red wine) came to just under $42. I heartily recommend.
A small restaurant with excellent menu choices and delicious Thai food. The staff are extremely friendly. We would have preferred to have the dishes come closer together, as we like to mix our tastes as we eat, but they were quite busy and as a result we received each dish quite apart from each other. Prices are relative to other Thai restaurants, but they do have lunch and dinner combos and those prices seemed very reasonable. There is also a choice of beverages, including beers, ciders and wine. The restaurant is open from 11:00-9:30pm and they offer free delivery to the Sidney/North Saanich areas from 5:30-8:30pm. Closed on Tuesday. We ordered the Chon Tong Pad Thai, which was wonderful; the Chicken Red Curry; Chicken Larb; and Jasmine Rice. Medium flavour was just on the edge of being too hot for us, but good to know for next time - we will just order mild/medium. This will definitely return for more meals at Chon Tong and highly recommend that you give it a try.
I read about this restaurant on Trip advisor. It had 5 stars so it peaked my curious nature. I have been to the other two Thai restaurants In Sidney and yes they are good. My issue has been that I ask for mild spice and usually end up with medium. They got it perfect here. It was a takeout meal and if the service is that good with takeout, Imagine the service must be quite good as a dine in experienceI had the Tom Kha Gai: a kaffir lime infused coconut soup. It was perfect and better than my favourite Thai restaurant in Winnipeg; my old home town. It was a melding of beautiful flavours. This was followed by Chon Tong Pad Thai; their version of Pad Thai. The shrimp were succulent; perfectly done. I love the broad noodles and the vegetables were cooked to perfection and of course mildly spiced as ordered. While waiting for my order, I had a iced Thai, orange coloured tea; Yum Yum. I was thinking how nice it would be to go for a lunch and have a large bowl of Tom Kha Gai and the iced tea, which would come in just under $10. They have combos for dinner, although I am not a fan of any combos anywhere. However, The lunch combos with their plethora of choices ( You choose a soup, an appetizer and a main course for $8.99) which looked interesting indeed. It is on Resthaven but kind of around the corner on Malaview beside a little store.Make the trip. You are in for a treat.
I went there on a Wednesday around 5.00 pm. A free parking nearby.I got Spring Roll and Stir fried vermicilli with yellow curry and chicken. Fast service and God value for money.Only $11.At good place to eat before taking the ferry at Swart Bay.
