What User doesn't like about The Boat House:
On arrival found it difficult to find a park told anywhere along the road The Lady who checked us in didn’t take our payment So we were charged high bank fees no happy However the Owner was lovely very helpful we must say Room...was good breakfast very good Location was good for us View all feedback.
I popped in for a quick drink and snack with my friend. I was greeted by a young man who lacked the word excuse me in his vocabulary and instead asked me to Get out of the way as he showed someone to the disabled...toilet (The customer was not disabled) as it is a one in one out system due to corona and the main toilet had someone in it already. I did not realise I was standing outside of the disabled toilet and like I said a simple excuse me would have been more professional. First impressions RUDE! We ordered some Triple cooked chips to share, they were the whitest triple cooked chips I've ever seen and not very well cooked. The small bowl of chips with a nasty looking bad one sticking out was not appealing to the eye on presentation. If they can mess up a a bowl of chips this much I won't bother going for a main meal. Also the size of the bowl was very small and at the cost of definitely not worth it. On the plus side the views are nice.

As usual we are always last minute mainly because of the British weather so this place was one of very few available for a sunny weekend away. Upon arriving in Sutton Bridge it was fair to say we were underwhelmed. The town has lots of...boarded up buildings which is why we drove past The Boathouse times before we spotted it next door and at the end of the street are two derelict buildings! Which is why we sat in the car for a long time deliberately whether to even check in and not just drive off. Upon entering to check in the dining room smelt damp and fusty and upon being shown to our room “a premium suite” we started to planned to stay here just for the night and go out in the evening to plane our escape. There are not any nice pubs or restaurants near by and nowhere to walk to. The much regarded full English breakfast whicheds praised by some on this site, I think they are people impressed by quantity not quality nasty pasty sausages and concentrated orange juice. THE PROBLEM IS WE BOOKED THROUGH BOOKING.COM THEIR T C’s state you have to pay the full amount regardless (so why do the owners need to make any effort) which they clearly don’t . We had booked for nights and left after no offer of any reimbursement was made, the manageress didn’t even flinch when we said we are leaving. I can only assume this happens a lot. An expensive mistake this B and B parades itself as a tourist destination it should really be honest and tell it like it is, it’s a B and B for workmen working away from home who just appreciate cheap rates, a big breakfast and a bed to sleep in. Nice things like having a toilet roll holder on the bathroom wall really wouldn’t bother them, we thought this when we saw the high vis vests hanging on the door handles of the bedrooms. NEVER AGAIN
My stay at the boat house was the most horrible experience that I have ever had. The room we where given was filthy, had dust everywhere, and mould growing on the bottoms of the walls. The bed sheets where clearly not washed properly because they...had stains on. The bathroom at the boat house was disgusting. The rubbish bin had not been emptied. There was spiders and bugs everywhere. And the toilets needed a good bleach and scrub. My partner was horrified to see maggots and cockroaches under the bed. And mouldy food that a previous guest had left there. There was a constant smell of weed while we stayed there, definitely coming from inside the building even tho there was no other guests when we arrived there. I would not recommend for anyone to stay here. Worst experience of my life.
Although I previously had commented on the restaurant a few months ago I decided to go back as my daughter had booked for us to dine for my birthday. The food was good, the staff were attentive and friendly. This time we were asked if...we had registered our cars for non payment of parking and there were plenty of signs reminding people. Well it was good to see that Louis and his team had taken the complaining seriously.
