Oscar's Cafe - South Lakeland

They waited for us to order before telling us that the dog was not welcome We asked for 1 of the drinks to be put into a take away cup so they put all the drinks in take away cups. Although the café only had a few tables occupied we were clearly not very welcome

Terrible service, terrible food and extortionate prices. Please train your staff properly, if you are going to charge overly priced items, at least buy some decent local products instead of cheap frozen ****. Will never return again , I’d rather starve !!

Needed a quick bite to eat before the ferry ride to Bowness. Looked at the Lakeside Hotel opposite (and really should have gone there. Oscars café is awful. Self service cutlery/condiment area is **** filthy. I didn’t fine one clean teaspoon. Nothing was washed properly. My wife had a tuna jacket potato. I had the pre-prepped, cling film wrapped Ploughman’s Lunch for £7.50 The pork pie, the star of the show of any ploughman’s lunch, was RANK! My wife and I didn’t stomach one bite. I don’t think a dog would eat it! It was factory made, plastic pastry and a mushed/grey filling of salty animal waste. A **** disgrace. The windows were filthy, and the few people in there show how **** it was. Don’t go!

I went to the cafe on the ground floor that serves Starbucks coffee. The drinks were okay, but they were priced at the typical Starbucks rates. The food selection was very limited, with many customers ordering soup that was unfortunately sold out when we tried to order it. There were only a few options available like slices of pizza and sausage rolls. The kids' sandwich choices included cheese, ham, and mustard. Mustard for kids? And in large amounts too. A plain ham option would be much better. There doesn't seem to be much competition in this area, which is a shame because it could definitely push them to improve.

I recently visited the cafe downstairs with my toddler grandson and was disappointed to find that the upstairs section was closed for a meeting, with no notice given at the bottom of the stairs. If I had known, I would have gone back to the lovely railway cafe at Haverthwaite instead. We were stuck for an hour and hungry, so we had no choice but to eat there. The sandwiches were overpriced, and there was not much else to choose from. I ended up with a cheap and gristly burger, a greasy sausage roll, and a mediocre coffee, none of which were worth the price. The tables were dirty, and I had to clean one myself before we could eat. The two staff members were nice and polite, but as locals, we found this cafe to be a total embarrassment for the area. With so much competition, someone needs to improve the quality of this cafe given its prime location.
