I recently went for breakfast and was very pleased with the excellent service. The restaurant had implemented thorough social distancing measures, and the food was absolutely delicious. View all feedback.
What D6047ORkarenf doesn't like about The Sheiling:
The chicken was supposed to be breast meat, but it appeared and tasted more like meat from the bone. My husband ordered macaroni and said that Lidl's version tastes better. Despite the restaurant being busy, I would rather make my own food as I was a bit disappointed with the quality. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. View all feedback.
This is a very popular family run garden centre and cafe in the Clyde Valley in an area well served by competitors, so to keep such a strong following is an achievement. The coffee shop has been extended and a new table control system gets over a problem previously experienced at busy times of ordering food but not having anywhere to sit afterwards. However there are problems with their ordering system . On no less than three recent visits they got our order wrong in one way or another, either missing out items or getting things wrong. They need to get a more efficient system in place. The cafe has a nice decor and a pleasant outlook, but the tables are very close together giving the place a slightly claustrophobic feel when busy. The garden plants area is not the best in the valley but they do have an attractive pictures/art area as well as the usual gift ideas. On a recent visit there were signs of work taking place possibly to extend the sales area and hopefully extend their appeal also to make this more of a destination rather than just somewhere else to visit.
Cafe and staff good However baked potato w cheese very poor, 1 tablespoon of cheese, i thought they had forgotten to add it Asked for extra cheese 1 for a tablespoon. Cheese tasteless Pie, beans and chips awful, Pie look warm, filing disgusting, chips under cooked
We ordered two of the steak and caramelised onion ciabatta sandwich with chips which cost £12.50 each on arrival of the food the steak was gray and the onions were also discoloured. The steak was over cooked and chewy the onions were wet and very watery the sandwich was tasteless and the meat inedible the frozen chips were also hard in the middle. When highlighting this to one of the staff I was assured they had never received any complaints before no apology or offer of an alternative instead the food was taken back to the kitchen. The server reluctantly offered a refund still no apology and all the time undermining everything I said by reiterating that they have never had a complaint before. The whole situation was handled poorly the food was sub standard and I suspect the items we had were frozen and then microwaved. They are charging premium prices for poor quality food. We were a party of three 2 of us got the steak sandwich 1 panini 2 cokes a tea and we were £48.20 so you would expect homemade food at a decent standard. I found the staff rude and abrasive and would definitely not recommend it. The whole cafe set up is style over substance !!

Poor quality compared to other garden centres nearby Soup did not resemble chicken and rice but merely watery stock with some carrots and rice! Coffee was not barista made and staff who are mostly very young need to concentrate on customers instead of chatting amongst themselves Goulding us miles ahead and cheaper
