The food at this restaurant was delicious and expertly prepared. The Sunday roast had a tender pink bark and was accompanied by plenty of sweet, sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. The portions were very generous. However, the restaurant itself could use some improvement, particularly the ladies' toilets which were not well-maintained. The paper menus were worn and could be replaced, and the plastic menu was sticky... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Anchor:
Although the website shows pictures of a delicious Sunday Roast, this was not available, when I told the waitress how disappointed I was she came back and said she had checked the website and couldn 't see any pics of Roast dinners, which is absolutely wrong,...one to argue with a customer and two she obviously didn 't look properly. Sp I opted for the steak but they didn 't have any even though it was on the special... View all feedback.
While we went to pub a series of years, we were never in the position to enter, and we were abandoned! we had the fish cake that was not prawns and full of white fish with spinat under creamy...Mash and the fish and chips that were fresh, light teig and crispy. the entire menu was good and so cheap. best served an apple crumb with crippled as desert. hooray! so many chains and 'popular' restaurants have terrible dessert menu without a crumb in itself and seem to be a reflection that was great! the staff was beautiful: helpful, timely and welcoming, so we will return!
Great customer service, very nice comfortable back garden, excellent food generously served, well presented. You can eat in the back garden or inside. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Or joyful if you are in the pub! Handmade food, menu plus specials. Some French food like rabbit,...beef bourguignon, Dauphinoise potatoes and much more. Multilingual waitress and very knowledgeable about the menu. Nicely decorated. Friendly local pub with a great choice of beverages. 1 minute walk from the beautiful river Thames and park. Dog friendly. Family owned.
We visited this pub yesterday, a first for my husband and I, my son has been there on numerous occasions. We were delighted at the menu as it was not all “traditional” pub fare. Our food was delicious, the staff were very attentive, and they...even altered a dish for our three year old granddaughter. My husband had the venison and walked away from the pub very satisfied. Thank you to all of the staff for a delightful visit. When we are back in the UK again, this will be a must to revisit. Lindsay
We had an idyllic sunny evening in the garden. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier. We both had lamb chops with Greek salad which were very tasty and good value for money. We will definitely be back next time we visit Henley. Having seen a...display of Mike Hailwood photographs on display in the bar my husband enjoyed reminiscing with his sister who owns the pub. We will definitely be back next time we visit Henley.
I write this review as a lover and ambassador of the anchor. I still have hope that one day hopefully sooner rather than later) changes will be made to enable me to champion this establishment once again. The anchor for me was pre-pandemic) a hub,...safe space and local for Henley newbies AND regulars. You got to know the landlords and meet Henley’s finest that had also sniffed it out as the place to be! It offered a sense of community and regular friendly faces that I hadn’t experienced elsewhere in town. It feels different now, reasons listed below: 1. You close so early people can’t get into their flow of conversation and let their hair down through fear of hearing “last orders at the bar” …. Before 10am sometimes earlier) 2. You have nibbles on the menu but when you try to order it’s always met by being told, we’re closing soon OR we’re not serving today, so all you get if lucky) are some crisps or nuts which personally aren’t for me) 3. The smoking area… it’s a garden, why can’t people smoke? You used to be able to do this so it’s odd that now we can’t? Anyway, I will always be pro anchor, I just wanted to share some feedback as I do love the joint and it will always have such sentimental value to me. It just hasn’t moved in line with my personal and friendship needs. Which makes me very sad.
