The place has been around forever. I grew up as a kid going here and I moved back to the area twenty years later and I still go here. It is your standard Chinese American fair. If you go in expecting that, then you will not be surprised or disappointed. The food is good for what it is. I like it since it reminds me of childhood memories in part, but beyond that the deals are good and it has, and it is one of the few... View all feedback.
What Bah M doesn't like about Empress Gardens:
I went in for some what I though would be good Chinese food, first their prices are super high, $10 for a small order of broccoli, then the older lady who was the order taker started arguing with me about fried rice and brown rice, totally rude and rushing me while ordering, the gravy from the Almond chicken was nasty and watery. I don’t remember this place being this nasty, I haven’t ate here in years but I definite... View all feedback.
Shrimp W. Broccoli, Fried Rice, Egg Roll. Delicious! Especially if you're a garlic lover, like me. If not, I'm sure they can prepare the dish with no garlic. Lovely presentation, polite and quick service. Reasonably priced.
I was born and raised in Southfield, and this is the only Chinese restaurant we ever ate at. The Almond Chicken is the best I ever had. Miss this place great food and cool, dark mid century ambiance.
This is my fav Chinese restaurant in the region! The staff is nice and professional. :
Just had the General Tso and Chicken Lo Main. It was delicious. They make their spring rolls by hand and the love in them shows. Pickup some carry out.
I have to say I 'm very disappointed with my experience at Empress Gardens yesterday. When working for Channel 7 back in the late 70s, early 80s, Empress Gardens was their go to because the food was fresh and delicious, but then I moved away. While in Southfield yesterday, I decided to place an order for Shrimp and Broccoli and Almond Chicken . The lady (or child) answering the phone was not only abrupt, but she hung up on me before I could ask how long it would take. Now, I 'm a forgiving person and would have overlooked this had they been extremely busy, but when I arrived there was absolutely no one there the place was empty. After spending over $35, we then discovered the food was horrible! The egg rolls, although they had bean sprouts, tasted like cabbage and didn 't taste fresh. The fried rice was old as if it had been sitting for a day or two. I even tried to reheat it, to no avail. Although the almond chicken was plentiful, it was thick and tough, the gravy was watered down, and the broccoli was mushy. I 've always loved Chinese food, but stayed away after some of the rumors started circulating. But after this experience, I won 't be returning and will just start cooking my favorite Chinese recipes myself.
