What Riley Reichert doesn't like about Big Meadows Wayside:
Aramark used to run this when they had the contract with Shenandoah National Park. Delaware North got the contract a few years ago and it hasn't been the same since. I don't mind the remodel as it makes more sense to have the restaurant facing the meadow as opposed to the parking lot, but the food isn't what it used to be. The meadow is beautiful now. Had a good meal on the deck at the Big Meadows Lodge.
Been going here for almost 30 years; people are friendly, sure is well stocked, lots of gifts/toys/games, and they just refurbished the dining area. Haven't eaten with the new menu yet but I'm sure it is great
This restaurant is a great spot along the Skyline Drive. We didn't dine inside the restaurant, but instead enjoyed a picnic with drinks and snacks purchased from the shop. The surroundings are beautiful, the building is clean, and you can see the meadows on the other side of the road. The sunsets are especially lovely from this location. The shop is well stocked and even has a gift shop. There are plenty of parking spaces and a gas station nearby. I recommend stopping here for a meal or a picnic at least once while visiting the park and taking a leisurely walk through the meadows.
This restaurant is a great spot to grab a bite while on the road, as they are open when the lodge is closed. The gas prices are also very affordable, perfect for a pit stop. The service at the restaurant is always friendly and the menu offers a standard selection of options. It's conveniently located near Big Meadows. Make sure to try their famous blackberry cake, it's a must-have! Check out the photo for a glimpse.
The renovated restaurant is lovely, but I do miss the traditional dining atmosphere. The menu is currently limited because of the pandemic, but they still offer their delicious fried chicken, which is served hot and flavorful.
