"We drove off of the Ferry and into port aux Basques, Newfoundland for the very first time on a rainy and foggy morning. We were anxious to head northward; our goal being St. Anthony, icebergs and whales. In Nova Scotia we met an outgoing and...very interesting woman from near Stephanville, NF and Stephenville was on the way, sort of. We turned off the main highway and headed west on a spit of land heading west into the Cabot Strait. The rain wasn't horizontal, but it was close to it. Stephenville is home to an international airport built by the US Air Force in 1941 as a strategic position in WWII. Many US servicemen met and married Stephenville women. Our new acquaintance was one of six girls, five of whom married and moved to the States while she remained in Canada. Arriving in Stephenville we searched out Tim Horton's. Of course it was packed. But, we found this McDonalds. It was nice with a slight French Canadian flavor. For a back up, it was just fine! Also, we Americans enjoyed the muffins and donuts. Can't get those at Mc'Ds in the States."
