Good: 1) The setting was old but niceBad:1) My eel soup (a culinary specialy of Stralsun) was salty as sea water, soggy and probably cooked in a bowl of butter. simply disgusting...I couldn't finish it and no one wanted to try it because the apparence was very unpleasant.2) the service was slow and the waiter unpleasant3) quite expensive considering the absence of quality View all feedback.
We went here a few days ago. Lovely food with an expansive menu, food cooked to perfection. I had a yummy big piece of halibut, and zander on my second trip. Very lively knowledgeable English speaking waitress. The proprietor is a bit odd, don't let this put you off. Nice atmosphere. Try the Hungarian fish stew!
If the rating of a restaurant were to be based on its authenticity, “Zur Kogge” would deserve five stars. However, on grounds of culinary performance, the result is far less brilliant. This is not one of the many restaurants in town that focus on tourists. Its dark wooden furniture revealed that it has already existed for many decades and become a little shabby. The German songs played at this restaurants and the waiter (perhaps himself the proprietor) fitted into this picture. He was not really friendly, but nonetheless humorous in a certain manner. The menu offered a wide variety of fish dishes and also a few meat dishes, most of which were moderately priced. The regional specialty I chose, a large bowl of eels soup, was unconvincing. It consisted primarily of sour cream and flour, with a few slices of eels. The only discernible condiments were salt and dill. The portion was huge, but this did not compensate for the lack of taste.
I've been visiting the Restaurant more than one time and even in different years. There has been not only once a reason to claim about the service or dishes or something else (ok, to be honest. I ate always the same- something 'Devils Fish with sausage)'. I recommend strongly to give it a try as it is old-fashioned but nice and even with nice waiters. I even guess that old-fashioned is some kind of tradition around there. It takes time for your favorite dish but it says me always that they do it not in the micro wave or somewhere. it's fresh and with experience prepared.....We were satisfied and even the price is quite good for the things you get there. Greetings,
We found the restaurant by accident on our first evening here (15.08.2013) I have had the best soup of my life and my partner a nice smelling and tasting fish plate. The service was entertaining, funny, food VERY GOOD. Since then, we tried different places, but nothing we tried here lived up to the first evening in Zur Kogge. One thing is for sure, for the rest of our holiday (5 more days) we are going to eat there!
