Came here for a work lunch. Located in Chifley Tower, it is a gem of a place hidden amongst the construction that is going on.
Once inside it is quite a calm setting. The service is ever helpful and always polite.
The theme of the day seemed to be the set menu and everyone ordered a variety of their bentos. Everyone agreed how lovely the presentation was and really liked the flavours and taste of their meals. I we... View all feedback.
What Elinore Langworth doesn't like about Azuma:
Had a dinner here with friends. I chose this restaurant based on people's reviews. The Staff were very attentive but deco was very average and furniture is outdated and tired looking. My friends took us to sokyo Japanese restaurant last trip and the food was fantastic. So I wanted impress my friends this time but azuma's food was just average and there was no wow factor. I don't understand why this restaurant was in... View all feedback.
Short review. Strange location when approached in the evening- Chifley Plaza in Sydney is deserted, looks like a mall all glass and tiles and escalators. Decor of restaurant matches the plaza. However the service is very good, the sashimi is excellent as were the eel and scallop nigiri. They offer many meat and tempura dishes but we just had the seafood based offerings and all were superb. A side note for budding magicians: Beer in thick large mugs with glass walls so thick the actual beer volume is around 150ml! But the large mug gives you the impression of plenty. Quite the illusion.
Visit here for dinner with family on Friday night . Reservation is recommended. The restaurant has private dinning rooms and it is great for cooperate catchup and special occasions. ordered Mediterranean bluefin tuna sashimi. the best sashimi i have ever tryed. The restaurant has greater range of sake.
Food: 1. Agedashi tofu: not bad, quite fluffy and sauce is right 2. Sashimi assorted platter: SUPER FRESH! It has been the best sashimi I have ever eaten. 3. Teriyaki beef: alright tasty because beef wasn't soft enough and it was really pricey. 4. Grilled salmon belly and kingfish nigiri: REALLY SWEET and FRESH! Worth trying! 5. Special: grilled kingfish - not great 6. Hand rolls: average, not worth the price. 7. Green tea cake roll: it came with green tea ice cream which was very nice (very green tea). Cake was not what I expected because it was vanilla cake with green tea cream instead of the whole thing as green tea flavored. 8. Green Tea: good in terms of the flavor. Summary: must get sashimi and nigiri sushi but not much of the mains. Service: Quite good but a little clumsy in terms of missing two of the orders and I had to wait for my green tea for quite long. But they gave me the green tea for free after. Atmosphere: - Really nice seating - Comfy for couples, small groups of friends/gatherings

It came with a plate of nicely grilled steak covered in a sticky teriyaki sauce, fried onions, and rocket. There were sides of rice, miso soup, tempura, sashimi, and a couple of grapes! All went well together. It is on the pricy side but is an upmarket experience compared to your usual Japanese fare.
