"It’s no secret that it’s difficult to find vegan food in the Japanese countryside. We went here for my birthday lunch. They may have shortened business hours due to Covid, I recommend making a reservation in advance. I really loved everything about this place. Nestled deep in the mountains, it’s peaceful and scenic. The food was almost all locally grown and of course freshly made. We had a set lunch with many small dishes including rice, spring rolls, soup, pasta salad, croquettes, and fried veggies. We followed out lunch with a warm drink, in my case I tried the soymilk chai. The owner was friendly and talkative. The cafe itself is quite quaint and a lovely atmosphere. I’d love to visit this cafe again!"

"I love going to Café Bonheur in Hongu, the owner told me that her sister also started a vegan café and I was so excited!! Had some of her (Bontes vegan sweets at Bonheur and loved it!! "I saw the reviews before, but I thought I want to try it. I am not judging by reviews, but in this case, I must say the reviews are true. For ten years I have been in Japan, I love to eat at a restaurants, but it’s the first time I have given a bad review. The customer service was not existent. We felt not welcomed at all, which is very sad. We came a long way to visit hongu, and were happy when we found this cafe. I understand if the owner made maybe bad experience in the past with guests, but I feel it’s time to stop a restaurant if you can’t welcome new guests with a friendly attitude and smile. The food it’s not worth the money. I like to spend money on food, if the food is good. The food was not delicious, and we paid almost 30,00€ for it. Although I have to say the guy who came out at the end, said thank you and were friendly. Not the woman. I hope you can offer better customer service and food in the future, I am sure more people will come and like it."

"With friendly service and a warm atmosphere, I’m glad we stopped here after walking by Oyunohara. The lunch menu is limited to three main items. We tried the roasted venison rice bowl which was delicious and good value for money, and the Kuromon beef steak, which while tasty and cooked to a nice medium, felt overpriced for the small portion. Of note are their eggs, which are free-range and raised on site."
