"The food is excellent here but today we were unfortunate to have a very rude head waiter. Our dim sum dishes came about 5 minutes apart each course which we didn’t mind. But the last 2 plates did not come . After waiting for a long while we asked and he went to check and said one of it they don’t have today. He was not bothered, no apologies etc. Never mind we waited some more but by now people were queuing along the staircase so I said to him if we can bring our last plate we can packed it and go as we have had enough to eat. He shrugged his head and just you just wait as we have our own system of working here. So we waited, We saw rice roll Cheong Fun) that we were waiting for walk passed with waiters and waitresses carrying. But my very patient husband said it’s ok we can wait. Mean while to save time I had gone to the counter to pay. I ask Jo if he has any nice biscuits so I may buy some to take with me. He was not interested and said , just pay this first. After I had, he pointed rudely to my seat and said very roughly ‘ Go back to your chair’ I’m thinking this man is the rudest custom service I’ve ever encountered for a long time. He is definitely not happy and not interested in his job, so why is he the head waiter and front of house ? Shame about this as food is so good. Will go elsewhere in future"

"In these current times it is standard practice for eating establishments to reduce the size and/or quality of their dishes ………… whilst increasing prices. But not at The Old Mill, the quality of their food remains high, is attractively presented and ………… still at reasonable prices. We opted for the duck and the Parmesan cod, both were delicious with plenty of tasty vegetables and were complete dishes, with no need for further sides. And that was before the scrumptious chocolate mousse and the raspberry/vanilla cheesecake! Thank you for “bucking” the trend!"

"This place is excellent,! great service, great eating, amazing worth. even though the prices were very modest, the waitress was really good and made sure we were satisfied with the meal. they made an individual eating for my child. there is a city parking space 5 minutes away, and this part of southampton felt a bit rough. so they take the precautions they would take in every big city center, but it is worth it!"

"We had a very warm welcome from Roz. We stopped off here for lunch before travelling onwards to the ferry for the Isle of Wight. We both had the steak and ale pie together with chips, peas and carrots. It was delicious!"

"Four of us (adults) visited on a Thursday evening in January. Service was very good. The menu was slightly reduced due to a temporary problem with the supply of some fresh fish from their suppliers. The waitress was quite honest about it (only a few...dishes were affected) and I was actually pleased to hear that they had refused frozen fish from the fishmonger as the chef insists only in fresh fish. I ordered a risotto main. I have to say it was rather salty which was a shame as the underlying flavours and consistency were good. The other three mains were all excellent as were the desserts. There appeared to be a good outdoor area with outside bar. A lovely, clean pub serving decent quality fresh food. We will definitely visit again, probably in the warmer weather so we can check out the garden area."
