Alobar is a really great Michelin addition. Being part of the Alo Group, you can expect great food, warm hospitality, and an overall positive experience. The main positive is that it’s not a huge fight for reservation/time commitment. It’s more than possible to come in for a relatively last minute intimate soiree, drinks, date, etc. I still think that the mille-feuille here is one of the best in the city and is somet... Dined here early evening for birthday celebration. I definitely have enjoyed the food and when it wasn’t too crowded. Ordered the Hokkaido scallop, duck confit pappardelle and Mille feuille. The scallop portion was good for one, nicely paired with ponzu and dill. Personally think the sauce’s sourness might have overpowered the sweetness of the scallop, but it’s a refreshing dish overall and good as an appetiser. The pappardelle was the star of the 3 courses. The duck fat and sauce hung well on the pasta, it has well absorbed the flavour. The duck was perfectly roasted, the skin was crisp, and the meat was tender. The fat just melted in your mouth. Also loved the fried garlic crisps garnish, it has added another layer to the flavourful dish. The Mille feuille was good for two, cream was light and the puff pastry was crisp and brittle. The sourness of raspberry and sweetness of custard was well balanced. What was disappointing though, was the service of this Michelin starred restaurant. This isn’t my first time visiting a Michelin starred restaurant and the good standard is having the staff trained to standard procedure, ie explain menu, change plates after every course, etc. After I was set down at the table, the waitress wasn’t bothered to explain the menu and I was left alone to explore the offerings. I would normally appreciate the efficiency of the staff, swiftly taking the finished dishes and cleaning the table, quickly fixing the mistake of taking the wrong order but the entire experience felt very rushed. When I was just done with the dessert, they’ve already put the bill down on the table! The other restaurants, whether they are Michelin starred or not, rarely does that so this is to my surprise. Would recommend their food but there’s room for improvement in their service.
My partner and I celebrated our anniversary here and were looking for a place we could sink our teeth into that had an array of flavours in both food and drink and are happy to say that we are so grateful we chose Alobar! We’d come here for the sole reason that my partner loves Duck and we’d never been here before but had heard from a friend that the Duck Pappardelle Pasta and Foie Gras Parfait dish here were a must try and they were not wrong in the slightest! The Pappardelle was filled with flavour and with very generous portions of beautifully cooked Duck with hints of spice while the Foie Gras Parfait was an assortment of melt in your mouth ingredients (including cherry jam) that paired beautifully with the aromatic toasted bread that the parfait comes served with. We explained these 2 recommendations to the service and we were so blessed to have both Olga and Cade help make spot on additional recommendations of other dishes to complement our palate preferences as well as an order of how the dishes should be served. Every recommendation provided was taken and we were so happy with the choices made. A stand out for us was definitely the Salmon Crudo perfect blend and hints of the poblano pepper throughout which was recommended to us by both Olga and Cade. Other staff recommendations included the garlic prawn skillet and beef carpaccio served with a side of pain au lait to dip into the remnants of the garlic prawn and duck pappardelle dishes which was heavenly! The location is just the right size for an intimate experience and perfect for my partner and I who prefer dining at bar/counter seating wherever we go. I know we’ll be back for the salmon crudo and duck pappardelle, and certainly to try more the menu we’ve not yet explored. Thank you to the staff for your incredible work and for making our anniversary feel so special including the surprise drink Cade made for us for the walk home.
Deserving of 1 Michelin Star.Came on a Tuesday for a 7:15PM reservation for 2 and it was a full house. I've been to the other sister restaurants (Alo Aloette) and was really looking forward to trying Alobar. Service and food are exceptional! We ordered 2 drinks, 4 apps/sides 2 mains. I think we could have gone without the fries as we had trouble finishing the mains. The fish was delicious and I did not expect the flavours. I thought their duck pasta was the best duck pasta I've had. The pieces of duck meat were crispy and melted in my mouth.Highly recommend and would come back for a special occasion. I advise booking a reservation in advance as it was very busy on a Tuesday night.
The food was perfection. It was also so refreshing to be to not have to dress to thee nines to enjoy a Michelin star. No foolish jacket and tie rules. The oysters, carpaccio, Iberico pork chop and the mille-feuille were all perfection done. Best chop and mille-feuille i've had in my life. Clearly the pastry was piped fresh, all the puff was crisp and light. There was a dollop of tart raspberry something in it that made it bright. And the carpaccio aioli with the watercress was just the perfect savory bite. The Iberico pork chop and Beed carpaccio were features
Nothing compared to a real Alo Experience and personally surprised this place got a Michelin star. Service was pretty bad to be honest. Everyone's so young, staff having a great time with each other but not professional in my opinion. Our waiter literally ran off in the middle of a sentence to talk to a friend and came back like way later to finally take our order, which I thought was outrageous to be honest at a place like this.Food was overrated and expensive. Pasta was underwhelming for the price, the braised short rib was good though. Went for my birthday, no free deserts, charge for bread and overall I wouldn't recommend this place unfortunately. It was good, but nothing special in terms of memorable dishes, service or anything really. Bread was good though. Really surprised this has a Michelin star.
