We have (always) done lunch/appys and drinks. Ventured into dinner this visit. Was impressed. Great fresh ingredients, food selection to please all. Way more than bar food (no offense to bar food tho) View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Of America:
disappointed that some of the menu items were actually set on the menu and online. came especially for two of the fish items. if you had known, you would have looked at another restaurant. quality of the food we did was good as usual, but not what we wanted to dinner. View all feedback.
After a long hard day, just wanted a nice relaxing dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary. My husband ordered a Grey goose martini with no vermouth, I ordered their specialty lemon drop. His martini was some cucumber vodka, not what he ordered, and he didn't care for it. Server never checked on the drinks. He ordered filet mignon, I decided to try the margarita yellowtail. His steak was tender, but lacked any flavor. I had never had yellowtail before. What was cooked was tasty, but bulk of it was very rare. I get eating a nice tuna steak on the rare side, but the center was **** rare, not pink, but ****. The rice and veggies were ok, but not enough to make a meal being I couldn't eat the fish. Again, server didn't check on us for awhile. I really wanted to try the lemon tart brulee, but instead opted for sea salt Caramel cheesecake as I really wanted the hot white Russian as a nightcap. Well...they didn't have milk for the drink. NO MILK! The cheesecake is misnamed. Don't get this if you are a caramel fan, or expecting a nice caramel taste. The cheesecake had a weird texture, wasn't nice and creamy. It came with a coffee creme and coffee beans. Totally overwhelmed the cheesecake. Didn't taste caramel at all. I like coffee flavor, and if the cheesecake would have been called coffee cheesecake, it would have been fine. Overall, a really poor dinner to celebrate our anniversary, and a crappy end to an already crappy day. Will not patronize them again!
Food was bland and expensive. It's bad that the best thing at our table was an egg sandwich that cost $21!
We had great service and wonderful food. The waiter did a great job with our order. I especially appreciated that since I asked for a few items not be included in the my salad. The cowboy salad was big and great tasting. Cowboy chili came in a sourdough bowl tasted really good. My husband who enjoys spicy foods. Did find the chili to be on the spicier side even for him. Yet, he ate the whole thing. A friend had the chicken sandwich on brioche roll. They loved it and came with a lot of food too. We appreciated how our server kept our non alcoholic drinks refilled.
A lot has changed over 30 years. The Bar of America was lively and had a positive vibe. The service was extraordinary. Food was average. Most disappointing was the $39.00 BBQ Chicken. It was dry, like eating sawdust. Surprisingly disappointing. The restaurant had a raw fish appetizer that ate as an entree and it was delicious. Spicy and fresh. Yummy. It ended up being a very expensive evening, atmosphere engaging, the food overall too costly for the value.
Everyone really enjoyed their dinner; good selection of dining options; service was OK on a very busy night. Noise from nearby train was sometimes annoying.
