"We arrived on spec and we're met by a friendly waiter. We were seated and shown a tablet which had pictures and a description in Portuguese. The waiter had adequate English and helped us. We ordered a platter between 3 but was advised it was too big for 3 people. We went with the waiters recommendation for a starter. We had the traditional piglet with a wine recommended by our waiter again. The food was top class as was the service. I will definitely go back if in the area again."

"These are the kind of restaurants we love: Slightly old fashioned, stylish, excellent quality food with kind service to match. Carvalho is close to the thermal bath facilities, and the clientele is mostly on the north side of their 50ties, dressed nicely to go out to a quality establishment and determined to enjoy themselves in typical understated Portuguese and French style (no touristy boorish excesses here!! . The key waiting staff were a pleasure to see in action, they orchestrated the dining room to perfection. The female waitress with a hint of Father Ted's Mrs Doyle, but only in as far as her maternal slightly conspiratorial smile towards her clientele reminded us of her. The food was marvellous, good quality, tasty, traditional fare. The wine was excellent. The cooked pear in red wine in particular fine desert, we don't see it enough on menus these days my husband nabbed the last one!"
