"It is nice to experience something that bit different in life and the sharing menu here certainly was that. 1) BEETROOT TARTAR, GOAT CHEESE, 2) RIVER CRAYFISH, SLOW-COOKED EGG YOLK, SMOKED ALENTEJO PORK, 3) ROASTED LAMB, CARROT PURÉ, SPINACH, YOGURT, AND MINT SAUCE, 4) STEWED DUCK IN TOMATO SAUCE, LOW-TEMPERATURE EGG were our choices accompanied by a bottle of the outstanding red QUETZAL Reserva. Our only criticism is the works canteen feel to the modern stylish dining room. Upholstered chairs and linen tablecloths would have made the ambiance and setting perfect. On the plus side, it was great service with tasty food which was beautifully presented."

"A Taberna is a small restaurante near Beja. It isn't easy to find but it is a real gem. Expect less of a fancy restaurante and more like having a meal in a relative's home. I don't think the term comfort food can be used more accurately than to describe the meals D. Maria prepares in her restaurante. The perfect way to experience this restaurante is with a larger group. This way you can all order something diferente and everybody gets a taste of everything. Jantar de Grão, a stew with pork and chickpea, Octopuss Rice, Pork Cheeks, Duck Rice are my favourites but the Cod Fish with Cream is very popular as well. The desserts are one of the highlights of every meal at Taberna. There are no individual portions. They bring us the large bowls and we take what we want. I strongly recommend the Rice Pudding. This price is a huge surprise. It is very cheap and one of the best value restaurants around."

"After the usual search for a place to eat on tripadvisor, we decide to go the #1 in Portel. What a great choice! We were the first to arrive around 8 pm. Were warmly received and decided to have dinner in the inner patio. To start we have chosen the typical Açorda Alentejana (garlic and codfish), very tasty and comfort to the stomach. Then we had the bochechas de porco preto . What an amazing confort food. The sauce was a reduction of wine and the potato pure on the side has bits and peaces of ginger, a pleasant tasteful surprise. To finish the meal, we ordered the typical Siricaia which was very good. But the cherry on the top of the cake was the Pudim de Abobora (pumpkin pudding); for me one of the best desserts I had in a restaurant. This restaurant is definitely a great choice, I just regret is far from where we live."
