"This restaurant is located in, and run by, the hotel Domus Real Fuerte de la Concepcion. As such, it is located in a casement and has views of both the central parade ground and the entry area. The fort theme is reinforced by the large group of 54mm hand-painted miniatures of Spanish military uniforms from the 16th through early 19th centuries in a glass case at the entry, and the reproduction Portuguese military uniforms from the Peninsular War era worn by the staff. One can dine outside in the courtyard if one wishes but the evening was too cool for that to have been enjoyable, and anyway we preferred enjoying the unique atmosphere of dining in an 18th-century fort casement. The menu is quite limited but what we had was expertly prepared from fresh ingredients and was very tasty. We shared a starter of a mushroom risotto with the Portuguese sort-of cream cheese. Warning, it's a huge portion and quite rich so would recommend sharing. It was delicious and I should say that my spouse dislikes risotto but still liked this one! We followed it with a dish of beef cheek (each, not shared) which although a traditional Portuguese dish was done in a non-traditional fashion, among other things being completely boned, and served as a casserole. This, too, was delicious. We finished with a shared desert. The house red wine was of the region and was very tasty. Service was friendly and efficient, and the menu had English translations. Good, because the staff was friendly and tried to be helpful, but their English was so poor that when they tried to answer questions they usually inadvertently misinformed. Why not a five? The price was not totally unreasonable but was on the high side for what we had. Also the menu is too limited in terms of options to get a five."
