The best places are often the small hole-in-the-wall restaurants. The woman working there treated us with so much respect, even though she was the only one preparing our food. It's not for everyone. Simple family drive (in many ways), here my son took us for Mexican food while driving from San Antonio to Houston. The food was freshened after we placed the order. Don't expect an ambience. Friendly service. They're just talking Spanish. My son spoke Spanish, so no problem.
