My partner and I walked by this place loads before they opened, so we were happy to finally see the space. We were there during a slow time (7 on a Wednesday) but still had a great time. Collin took great care of us and made one of the best old fashioneds I've ever had. Excited to visit again soon! View all feedback.
What Jerline H doesn't like about Baby Wale:
The venue was pretty empty on a Saturday evening 8pm) and our party of 10 was able to snag a table towards the back. Decor is beautiful, our server was friendly and so attentive. He really sold each dish on the menu. Small bowl of Olives $4): An assortment of olives. It was good, they're olives. Meatball Casserole $14): A smallish dish of tender meatballs. They weren't bad but not particularly memorable. Lobster Sala... View all feedback.
I didn't see any Wales but I found a cute bar. The downstairs has a dining area and bar. The upstairs has comfy seating and a bar area that can be used for private parties. I attended a private event. The lighting is nice. It looks like white Xmas lights draped from the ceiling. The food is yummy. This place is across the street from the convention center (back section) and close to metro.
This is a fairly large place, good for groups or private events. They have 7 beers on tap, so while not a wide selection, it was varied pretty well. Not crowded on a Wednesday night, service was lacking a bit. I ordered some simple bar food that seemed to take quite a long time to show up. As a frequent solo business traveler, I enjoy a bite and a beer by myself many evenings while kn the road. One thing I do enjoy while sitting at a bar is some mindless sporting event on a TV. There are no TVs here, surprisingly. Not bad, not great. Wouldn't seek it out.
We are in dc for an event at the conv center. We just walked the direction that it looked like where the restaurants were. First one we stumbled upon was Baby Elephant. We were surprised how empty it was at 8pm on a Friday night. We sat at the bar. Bartender was attentive but we def had a language barrier if we said much other than questions on the menu. We had the following: Olive plate- enough for 4-5 people and some olives I haven 't tried before, but it 's olives. Cheese plate- for us chain restaurant suburbanites (well my hubs) it was not cheese and crackers but I really enjoyed it! Super crusty bread, 3 1oz pieces of cheese. A smoked Brie and a smoked Gouda plus a sharp cheese. I assume they change these up. And a small pat of Quince paste which was amazing on the bread w the cheese. Turkey stuffing soup- I am a soup guru. This was interesting. It was a dark turkey stock with pieces of turkey that was smoked and almost like sausage, and carrots and then cornbread chunks on top- kinda like the bread in French onion soup. I liked it, but many people might say it is a little too herby- sage and thyme strong. Ribs and slaw- amazing. So tender, not all saucy but flavorful. Slaw was different bc it didn 't have the mayo part of cole slaw, but more Of a vinaigrette. The menu is very eclectic. I would like to go back several times to try all the interesting sounding menu items.
Really interesting, fun space. Friendly service. Food was very good. Lots of drink options, all well done.
I tried Baby Whale for the first time this weekend with my boyfriend and his family. I had heard mixed reviews but wanted to try it myself. They seemed to be low on staff, as there was just one waitress and she was also the hostess to be fair it could have just been because I was there on the early side for dinner. Most of what I had was delicious! Especially the fried chicken and the papusas...however DO NOT order the ramen. It was completely bland and not good if you want ramen for dinner, go to a ramen place! I would go back again though as the bar was huge and there were several appetizers I wanted to try in addition to what I had!
