"Outstanding! Excellent representation! Fancy cuisine! Food art! Terrific! I eccentric! Sophisticated! It will blow away your mind! Its all about HIAKAI! Have been there 3 times ! Lucky !!!! Its a must experience at least once ! Yes, it is costly, but its worth it ! Love their food and wine pairing! Stuff is on point ! They take a great care of their customers ! Very relaxing atmosphere! Love it ! The selection of dishes on the menu and the way how they come out are following one of traditional Maōri stories. The story itself is incorporated into the ingredients and the name of a dish. Service is excellent ! Once a new dish arrived, a server will tell you a story how a dish is related to the story and why those particular inferior were chosen. Its such a great concept ! They also offer cocktails pairings. We got it every time we went there. Excellent choice ! They also accommodated my food allergies every time I was there ! You must go there once you are in Wellington. A truly unique place!"

"I was excited to find a special dinner here. The restaurant is located in a quiet part of the city overlooking trees over the street. Service was careful and friendly, with a focus on the discussion about the origin of food and wine, and ideas behind dishes. I like most dishes being cultivated locally, a lot of them in the restaurant's own garden. We chose the complete 10-course tasting menu with wine pairing. The fragrances were like a typical disarmament and the aromas were mostly subtle. For me were the bread and olive oil, the cheese dish with granola and marmalade (one of just a few dishes with strong flavors), and the potato salad with seaweed dressing, although I enjoyed most dishes and the wines they had. What most people treated this meal was a (holiday) and not cheap, and I just went satisfied with my appetite and no longer. I want to come to lunch next time I'm in Wellington. An additional star for sustainability."

"Really nice ambience in the restaurant and service was excellent. All of the dishes that we tried were perfectly cooked and presentation was excellent. The only complaint (and it comes down to personal preference) is that I wish the flavours had a little more punch. Small but good drinks selection. Will certainly come back and will be sure to try the wine bar next time."

"This is my new local which I'm stoked about! They have awesome craft beer and wine, and really good hearty food. I almost wish I ate meat as the brunch menu is off the hook, but there are also lots of vege options too, the vege burger is amazing, and can be made vegan. My boyfriend loves the gaucho burger. The outside area is really cool, and they have lots of boardgames you can use, so it's nice to park up under the heaters in the covered area out the back, or by the fire inside on those winter nights. I find the staff just so friendly, and they now know what our drinks are, and pour it for us when we walk in, love that. Go Newtown!"
