This restaurant is a hidden gem that I have driven past many times. This time, I decided to stop for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The staff, including the chef, were really friendly and took the time to chat with me, even though they were busy. The restaurant is a traditional pub with a simple but delicious menu. I will definitely visit again. View all feedback.
What marienorthway doesn't like about The Tally Ho:
We went for Sunday lunch. My 3 year old doesn't eat much so I asked just for a sausage and Yorkshire pudding for him. When the food came 1 of the starters was wrong so they replaced it for the correct 1. Food was average I would say. When we came to pay we were charged for the more expensive starter and £10 for the 1 sausage and Yorkshire pudding!! I complained and it was reduced to £5. The whole meal was so expensiv... This cozy neighborhood pub offers a great variety of beers and excellent service. However, the food is lacking and is just average. After dining here multiple times, it is clear that the food is underwhelming, somewhat greasy, and likely mass-produced. If they could improve the quality of their food, this pub would be a standout.
After reading the recent reviews my wife and I decided to visit the Tally Ho tonight, what a mistake. I can only assume that the chef was off as the only food available was from the freezer, my wife had a vegetarian pie with chips and peas I opted for the Steak and ale pie with chips and peas, it appears that they forgot to add the steak. I left my pie uneaten apart from the pastry top as the filling was not nice, the guy who had served us (Chris) came and collected the plates without a word and then a waitress came with dessert menus which we declined. I then asked for the bill and when my wife went to pay she was asked if she wanted to add a tip to the card payment to which she said no, she was then asked if everything was ok to which she said the food was under whelming and I said that all of the food was out of the freezer and that there were no meat pieces in the pie to which he asked why I hadn't said anything when he had asked when he collected the plates, at this point I got a little annoyed and told him he had not asked at any point during the evening if everything was ok probably because he had been stood behind the bar listening to what my wife and I had been saying about the food, I was then told he had been in the trade for 15 years and never not asked how the food was at which point I told him I have been eating for over 60 years and never not told a waiter what I thought about the food when asked. on leaving the carpark Chris was stood at the door waving with a big stupid grin on his face. Will we be back, I don't think so.
Good, fresh food and excellent service. Attention to detail. Special board was available. I shall recommend to my friends.
We went for lunch on a Sunday. It was the most enjoyable meal I had during my two weeks in Europe and I had some other very good meals. The roast pork was moist, the veggies, yorkshire pudding, cheesy cauliflower, and cabbage were all delicious. Staff were all pleasant. Will definitely try to come back!
Were looking for somewhere for lunch whilst in the area so called in on chance. So glad we did. Great staff, good food and apparently great beer! We will return.
