"On a 40 degree day we stopped here for lunch, yes it was hot inside, but the food and staff were great. It gave us a much needed reprieve from the traffic on the motorway, we would definitely stop again when heading north from Sydney."

"It's all in the name. Toast, tomato, hash brown, sausage, 2 eggs and a mountain of bacon. The best of home cooking all in a cosy room. Served by cheerful happy staff and obviously well patronised by the locals. A warm fire added to the ambience of the room. Easy parking, great coffee makes for a top start to the day."

"I drive through Spencer on route to see the Buddhist monks in the forest. I too experienced the worst treatment from the former owner. I ended up not stopping there. I learned from the locals that the General Store recently changed hands and is run...by Jane, a lovely local lady who hand selected some other lovely locals to help her run the shop. This gave me the confidence to enter the shop! Service is outstanding, they truly go out of their way to help you and are more than willing to point out the local attractions or give directions. I had the burger with the lot. I must say it was fantastic and tasty. I couldn't drink because I was driving but oh boy, their selection of alcohol for purchase is exhaustive everything from local wine to boutique beer or your staples VB or Cooper etc. The shop itself is really interesting. It is spacious, with nice wooden flooring, heritage features, old signs and rustic ambience it would give the General Store from Schitt's Creek a run for its money : Worth a visit"

"Coming from Europe, we had no internet to check out where we could have lunch between the blue mountains and the hunter valley. We took what we found, which was the Colo River Cafe. We were really surprised about the quality of the food as we thought that they could take advantage of their situation being the only restaurant on the road. The ceasars salad was excellent. Simple menu, but prepared with love, the staff was very friendly too. Keep up the good work !"

"What a brilliant addition to the Hawkesbury. The building is beautifully restored and the food is exquisite. Initially the menu didn't appeal, but having tried various meals I cannot speak highly enough of he flavours and textures that create mouth watering and me memorable experiences."

"Love the place, food and the service is amazing! Interestingly we tried the sausage roll which was highly recommended by a lot of reviews, it was average to me. The pastry is amazing, the sausage was flat, a little dry in my opinion. However, the duck leg and the broccoli tart is so damn good. The broccoli tart would really help if there’s a slight acidity added to it, but because we also ordered the duck leg, the combo was perfect. Highly recommended."
