I dined at the restaurant with a three-course meal voucher from Groupon. The meal itself was enjoyable, but my friend's cup had some issues as there was a skin on the coffee. The waiter promptly replaced it when we notified him about the issue. View all feedback.
What Colleen M doesn't like about Afternoon Tea At Mercure Wolverhampton Goldthorn:
Our experience with the Afternoon Tea we ordered was quite dull and unimpressive. The sandwiches were lackluster, with basic fillings like egg, tuna, and ham. We were let down by the fact that we were only served one scone each, and they didn't taste homemade with fresh cream. The jam was even presented in sachets. Nowadays, Afternoon Teas are expected to have a variety of breads with gourmet fillings like smoked sal... View all feedback.

I treated my family (5 adults) to afternoon tea at this restaurant, which requires a reservation. The staff were welcoming, but upon being seated, we noticed that the seats were dirty with dried food and stains, and the carpet was worn and threadbare in places. We were informed of the menu and order of service, starting with a small bowl of tasty tomato soup with croutons, followed by a glass of wine. We then received a two-tier plate of sandwiches (cheese and pickle, ham and tomatoes, tuna, and egg), five pieces of fruit cake, and five small scones. The spray cream served went watery, and the portion of jam was small. We also had a large pot of tea. While I understand I have a healthy appetite, I found the sandwiches to be of poor quality with thin bread and insufficient quantity for five people. At £10.00 per person, I would not choose to visit this restaurant again.
Treated my parents and daughter for an afternoon tea as part of my Mums 80th birthday celebrations. The restaurant was completely deserted on our arrival which was a little disconcerting. The waitress was working alone she informed us, and would be with us as soon as she 'd finished serving somebody else. She did return after 5 minutes to ask if we wanted wine (quite odd as this was part of the package). The wine duly arrived and was fine and the food arrived some five minutes later. Sadly it went down hill from here. The sandwiches had spent far too long in the fridge (possibly left overs from a previous night 's buffet) and were of poor quality a meagre slice of ham with horrid rind on it and cut in half. No dainty little finger sandwiches like on the pictures. The other options were cheese and pickle and tuna and cucumber. To give her credit the waitress did ask if we wanted any more and went off to prepare some fresh ones but by the time she returned the moment had gone. Crisps and peanuts were included but no fancy little cakes as we 'd expected, we got a scone with cream and sachets of jam and a slice of horrid 'fruit cake '. The waitress asked if we would like cheese cake which was the only saving grace of the whole experience. The choice of drink was tea or coffee. When it arrived I mentioned that at other locations there was a choice of beverage to which the waitress pointed to a table with some sachets of tea on it! Perhaps I 've got 'afternoon tea ' wrong but on my previous experiences I 've felt a little bit pampered regardless as to if I 'd bought a discount voucher or paid the full £14.40 per head. My parents celebrated their wedding anniversary there 60 years ago but I doubt they 'll be back for their Diamond celebrations. A very disappointing experience at the Mercure Goldthorn Hotel!
I recently celebrated my birthday with 18 friends and family, I booked the Oakland Suite (private use for my afternoon tea party . We had a lovely afternoon, very relaxed, cakes, scones and sandwiches were delicious and our host (sorry I didn't get his name was very attentive and checked we had everything we needed at appropriate intervals during the afternoon. A big thank you to Alison and her team, who were very helpful with my arrangements and sandwich choices (for the fussy eaters! .
