The Old Bakehouse Tea Room - Worthing

Ignored Entered cafe and asked where it was ok to sit as we were two persons. Sat where we were asked to and we thought someone will tell us if we need to order at counter or they will bring a menu. Two working one on the phone and one serving. No one spoke to us No one approached us No one indicated they will be with us in a moment! Two men in a cafe. Ignored by staff! We’re we the wrong sort of customers ? Not local? Nice area nice cafe Very unwelcoming! Walked out!

My family and I dined at The Old Bakehouse on Saturday, April 1st. I have been here multiple times, and it was great to see the original team back in action. Linda, Melanie, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making our visit a joy. We enjoyed fresh sandwiches, sweet and savory scones, and delicious cakes (carrot cake and lemon blueberry) that were out of this world. This is the epitome of a perfect tea room experience. Welcome back, ladies!

During my most recent visit two days ago, I met another friend at the restaurant. It was uncomfortably cold inside, despite the staff seeming more comfortable behind the counter where they were moving around. Despite wearing many layers, we found it too cold. At 10:30am on a Friday morning, the cake selection was poor, with around five cakes that were gluten-free or vegan, teacakes for toasting, flapjacks, gingerbread, and cheese straws. The only scones available were cheese, and when I inquired, I was told they were sold out due to being busy. I was surprised that they couldn't bake more scones given their popularity. We spent 90 minutes there with only a hot drink, as my friend also did not find anything appealing. Disappointingly, no new items appeared during that time. Despite needing to make a reservation due to the restaurant's popularity, I had expected a better selection of freshly baked goods. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.

We love this place so much! Such friendly lovely staff, cute decor and the most amazing gluten free cakes ever! We regularly meet here or get take away coffee and cake and every visit has been a joy. Their quiche is always amazing too! Thank-you for making such delicious gluten free cakes, my husband is so grateful. Can’t wait for our next visit.

This was my first visit have read about it in the media. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the tables, the greeting given as I entered and the promptness with which I was present with the menu. The whole cafe had a homely feel to it.
