Where does the name "Tuna" come from and what is the best way to enjoy it

Today, the second of May is Tuna Day. It's even International Tuna Day. In America they celebrate "Reason Day" on the side, you can really use that right now. But now back to tuna.

Things to know about tuna

The tuna has earned its name through its speed. "thunnus" is ancient Greek and means "I hurry". This speed is basically even necessary for the tuna fish, because if they don't land on our plate in any form, they are predatory fussy. Originally, they occur mainly in the tropical, subtropical and temperate seas.

The largest tuna ever sighted was 4.50 m long and weighed 684 kg. It is accordingly also called "big tuna". It is good that tunas normally live in depths of up to 500m, because I would not like to meet this monstrous fish.

Although at first sight it seems as if the tuna could eat us humans quickly, they are on our menu the other way around. Unfortunately, this has also led to the fact that some species are threatened with extinction.

But now we come to the more pleasant part:

Enjoy your tuna

As with any predatory fish, you should be careful not to eat too much tuna, as they carry considerable amounts of mercury. But tuna is the fish with the finest taste, few calories and the highest amount of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids.
For example, 100 g of cooked tuna contains 4,923 mg omega-3 - split into docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Just as a guide, an adult person should consume about 250 mg of EPA and DHA. However, we can store everything in excess, so a serving of tuna is definitely good for our body.

Whether fried and coated with sesame seeds, as traditional Pizza Tonno or as Sushi. The tuna is used in almost every kitchen and also finds its customers.

So how about a good pizza tomorrow from the delivery service of your choice?

If you don't want to order, then read on.

Homemade

Quick, easy, and homemade, I can recommend a tuna salad. You need a head of lettuce of your choice (personally I like iceberg lettuce very much), red onions, hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, red peppers, of course the tuna and for the sauce mayonnaise and spices. I always season with pepper, salt, parsley and some lemon juice. You can also spice up the salad with black olives if you like.
Of course, this salad can still be extended and changed. There are no limits to your imagination.
If the weather is right, you can also grill fresh tuna wonderfully.

Here, a few grilled zucchini or eggplants go best with it. You can season your fish as you like, marinate it or just throw it directly onto the grill - actually tuna tastes great almost everywhere!
It even tastes so good that you can bake a low-carb pizza with it. You only need eggs and the tuna. This mixture then forms the pizza base. From my own experience I can say: It tastes really great.

But if you don't like fish, then you are wrong here on a day like today anyway.

In any case: bon appétit and ahoy - I'm going to go fishing for tuna, I'm hungry for a Nizza Salad!
