"We went with high expectations hoping to find a place as good as Brooklyn’s Llama Inn in Manhattan but came out very disappointed. Maybe they were overwhelmed because of Restaurant Week. We had booked a standard dining table for 8:15 pm which was not available when we got there. At 8:30 pm they offered us seats at the high tables. When we pointed out that OpenTable lets you select which type of seating you prefer, first they tried to argue that that was not true and then finally moved us to the dining room. Service in the dining room was mediocre. Our water glasses were not refilled, I finished a cocktail with the appetizer and asked to see the wine list to order wine for the rest of the meal, somebody brought the list and the waiter never came to take the wine order. They never took the list or the empty cocktail glass off the table. The dining room was very full and it looked like there was only one waiter available so he clearly could not keep up. The food was OK not great. We ordered ceviche which was bland and crispy dumplings which were good except that the sauce was salty to the point of being inedible. For entrees we ordered the seafood risotto, which was the best dish of the evening, and the arroz con pato, recommended by the waiter and also quite bland and flavorless. The quinoa brownie desserts were entirely forgettable. So we are back to trekking to Brooklyn for great Peruvian food."

"We had tkts to a show and one of our party was late. But they served us and let him join us late. Everyone that served our table was pleasant, relaxed, professional. The cocktails and food were excellent and then the desserts and the coffee were the cherry on top! Perfection from start to finish! We’re definitely looking forward to going back soon!!"

"Almost everything was very good. Black sea bass tartare was fishy and needed to be returned. They happily replaced the dish. I would say the staff is not as knowledgable as I've come to expect in Michelin starred restaurants, but they were entirely pleasant. While it's not three star Le Bernadin, the seafood dishes were delicious. I would definitely return for another $300 meal. Oh, almost forgot. The bread definitely some of the best. Compliments to the baker. I want another piece!"

"Quite simply, it was one of the best meals that I have ever experienced! We started with the avocado, freshly mixed tableside and then shared the steak/chicken platter for two. Absolutely amazing food! Throw a couple or original margaritas into the mix and it was heaven. Thank you for a great evening."

"We have found the Independent to be the perfect Happy Hour, Preplay dinner, and postplay food and drinks. The beautiful woodwork and photos create a terrific atmosphere. Last year we went there three times in a seven day period and this year twice in a four day visit. There are lots of choices in NYC, but this is our favorite. The food was amazing along with terrific service. Last Tuesday we did not realize we should have made a reservation, but they managed to find us a table for our preplay dinner. We will return next year"
