"Lovely boulangerie, stopped inhere for some goodies on our way back to giverny. Very nice gal helped us pick out our things, she answered all of our questions and was very accommodating. The place was filled with great treats, breads chocolates, gifts and drinks. A...definite when in vernon."

"For those going to visit Monet's garden at Giverny, it will be a mistake to get off the train and get in line immediately for the shuttle bus instead of walking through Vernon's downtown first.We bought a nice picnic lunch including sandwiches and dessert at the Rose Boulangerie & Patisserie, as well as other goodies in Vernon's downtown area and Wednesday market before crossing the Seine and walking on the bike/pedestrian path to Giverny. The prices, as expected, are lower than Paris prices, with larger portions. The sandwiches are filled with copious quantity of good quality ingredients. Pastry are on a par, if not better than any Paris patisserie. The macarones, however, are better than any that we have ever tasted, including the well-known brands from Paris. The flavors are intense, and the texture of the cookies have a slight chewiness to it (not just plain soft like most of the macarones), which contrasts nicely with the crunchiness of the shell, as well as the creamy filling. So three different textures in one cookie.The town of Vernon also has many other nice food shops on Rue St. Jacques (parallel to Rue Albufera, the main street leading to the bridge), including several that sell a wide variety of take out food including wonderful pates and even taboule that should not be missed."
