"A good traditional town centre pub retaining some heritage features such as the very pleasant seating booths and decorative screens. There is an interesting 'window ' in the floor revealing the cellar. An OK ale range for my visit and three ales and a cider were on the six available hand pumps. Alongside the dreaded John Smith’s smooth were Old Mill Brewery Styrian Wolf bitter, and Black Sheep’s Monty Pythons Holy Grail Ale plus a cider and these were in decent nick. A decent enough traditional pub for a pint in central Preston, especially if you can get one of the two private booths on the right hand side as we did."

"This is now slug n lettuce, which was a great atmosphere, though very lively, but that was because it was only open at the weekend. great selection for cocktails and drinks. this is a big place, so sitting things should get while eating, but can be different on a Friday or Saturday night. but destined to visit."

"Decent pub. Check your credit card receipts. They have a tendency to charge you more than its worth. They said it was a mistake but I don't believe them. How does £6.20 change into £19.20 accidentaly. When I challenged them they had no idea how to refund me. I spent around 1 hour trying to sort it out."

"If you 're a band and asked to play this place and travel quite some distance, I wouldn 't bother our set was delayed until nearly 11pm while they invited some random kid not on the bill to do 'kareoke ' with guitar on the stage, and the place emptied."

"You are always guaranteed a warm welcome at the Grapes by John, Julia and their staff. The menu is varied and reasonably priced, the specials board always has imaginative dishes using locally sourced ingredients.Paul along with Julia are amazing cooks, Paul's desserts are to die for . John has a good selection of real ales which are kept in perfect condition, together with a varied selection of wines."

"Average food and an average experience. Some items such as the curry and gammon are decent enough but others such as the steak and ale pie really aren't with very little steak and what is inside is tough, fatty and chewy. The cauliflower bites were like baby food inside with mushy cauliflower and the batter' was like rubber rather than being crisp. Also, a starter we ordered to come with our main courses was missed off and we had to go to the bar to ask for it. After our main courses we ordered some dessert for our kids, initially we tried ordering the apple crumble but that wasn't available, so we had the brownie, then the lemon sorbet but that wasn't available so this ended up as chocolate icecream, then the strawberry and clotted cream icecream but this also wasn't available so we had to settle for raspberry ripple. All this out of stock on a Friday lunchtime, so I can imagine there will be a lot of disappointment over the weekend. Added to which we had a 30 minute wait for the desserts to arrive bearing in mind we had ordered 2 icecreams and 2 pre made brownies and then they only arrived after we went to the bar and asked after another table who ordered theirs 10 minutes after ours received them 5 minutes before us. It was not overly busy during our visit and judging by the size of the Phantom Winger I would estimate it was barely a third full."
