"This is lovely rural pub with one of the finest selection of quality beers and home cooked food. It's a cozy and relaxed ambiance with eclectic Belgian pub styling and including a warming wood burner fire. Phil and John are welcoming and friendly owners who have created a must visit pub and regularly have music and comedy events. The high quality of artists that come are usually seen in major city venues so says a lot about this great pub."

"What an amazing place and bunch of people. I was on a bike tour to visit my son at university in St Andrews. The weather had been quite bad for a number of days on the way North. Now returning South, I found this hotel by pure chance while cold and wet and caught off guard with the night drawing in. Having called to chance my luck on a last-minute stay, I was greeted by Paul and his team who kindly arranged for the kitchen to stay open late so I could get some hot food inside me. The attention to detail of both the rooms and the staff was phenomenal, resulting in my asking if I could stay another day. Within a short period, they managed to fit me in, resulting in a much needed, welcomed, warm and friendly break. This isn't an area of the UK that I visit often. However, after such a wonderful stay, I am keen to return to the area with my better half, so she too may experience the wonderful service and friendly atmosphere of this Scottish Borders hidden gem. Thank you!"

"Sorry that we only had a brief stay here arrived late in the evening, and despite the kitchen being closed they made us some lovely sandwiches and soup, washed down with a well required whiskey. Very comfortable nights sleep, view across the Tweed to Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott, and quite possibly the quietest hotel room we have ever stayed in! Had the full Scottish breakfast the next morning which was so good, and did defeat us both, and then headed off. The staff were all so friendly and helpful and made it a great, if short, stay. Thanks"

"A friendly country pub and hotel with restaurant and dog friendly bar. We had a generous roast beef Sunday lunch, but sadly no horseradish sauce, followed by a nice homemade raspberry cheesecake. A good selection of beers plus guest beer, also alcohol free beer and cider available."

"On Sunday evening we were the first customers in about 2000 hours, although some others had arrived. a lot of space to find a place. the ubiquitous 3 shows showing football were an involuntary supplement to the bar. Strawberry Daiquiri (no crushed ice,) gin and tonikum and a prise morretti, £16.40"
