"Amazing food. Definitely worth a visit. I had the pear, blue cheese, beetroot and pecan winter salad for my starter. Incredible the combo of the dressing and the pecans which were somehow caramelised/toasted in such a way that a simple salad was taken to another level. Every course was wonderful. My husband had the truffle burger and said it was the best burger he's ever had. If you're in the area don't hesitate, I'd give six stars if I could! Lovely service too."

"Perfect location close to the centre of Melrose. Although very disappointed with the hotel, staff doesn't seem to be motivated and had no intention to hide it either. Our room was on the second floor and both flights of stairs needed a good vacuum clean, not very inviting. The room itself is very basic, coffee and tea tray with cups used by the previous guests was still there and the shower room could benefit from a good clean as well. We liked to make coffee on arrival and took the dirty cups down to reception to exchange them for clean ones, this was clearly irritating the staff although I think as guests paying £190 we should have been entitled to clean cups in our room. No apologies were made just a scowling face when we were handed clean(ish) cups. As it was prepaid we decided to stay but went out for drinks and food at the hotel next door. Sorry to say but I would not recommend to stay at George Abbottford hotel. Rooms: 2 Service: 1 Location: 5"

"Visited with some vegan friends having read good reviews and been recommended to try. It was a bit disappointing to find no cakes available that were vegan, they didn't have any nachos for the nacho dishes on the menu and ran out of plant milk. I had a weak cappuccino, and vegetarian chilli and rice which was tasty. The staff were really friendly but rather half hearted we felt about putting any effort into making food for folk who don't want to eat animal products. The veggie food was nice but not enough to warrant a trip to go and eat there when lots of other places do similar veggie dishes. Underwhelmed. I think it's perfectly possible to make tasty food and cakes that can be enjoyed by everyone. They don't need to overtly labelled as vegan if cafes are worried about putting people off in case they don't taste of much! It just takes a wee bit of imagination really."
