"We brought an out of town guest to Wind Cries Mary and had the pleasure of enjoying the most fantastic dinner in the back courtyard. It was a classic windy Victoria evening but we were completely sheltered from the wind and the perfect temperature thanks to the heaters. The three of us all decided to get the chefs tasting menu with cocktail pairings, I got the non alc pairing and it was just as special if not more so. What a special treat to have that option. The meal was one of the best we have collectively ever had and it was made even more lovely by the attentive, informative and friendly service of Mara. We will definitely be back."

"Delicious treats at a reasonable price. The sausage rolls have the perfect bite and moisture, not too dry. The fruit cakes are amazing. My friend says that from all the cakes he has tried to hit this is close to his tia Martas apple cake "

"While they don't have that much in terms of full meals in their deli, they do have a great selection of salads, mediterranean dips, and sandwiches, as well as a terrific bakery. Our favourites are the Baba Ghanoush which has the most wonderful smoky flavour and...perfect texture. How do they get the eggplant to taste like that? We also love their beet salad with walnuts. Oh....and go to their bakery section and get some Turkish Delight....either with walnuts or pistachios (our favourite). And they have lots of grocery items too. Friendly folks run it....and prices are generally reasonable (although the Greek Salad is a bit pricey, and its not one of their best dishes)."

"More of a pub than a diner, though there were a few diner type dishes on the menu, which was quite creative if not very extensive. Nice waterfront atmosphere. My grilled chicken sandwich was good but could have had a bit more spice, given the Spanish moniker it was listed under on the menu. Brownie cheesecake sundae was a wonderfully gloppy and huge dessert. Nice beer. Service was friendly and helpful but needed a bit more polish.WiFi did not work outside."

"Very nice “Basque” style cuisine and upscale atmosphere. Generous sized meals (enough for tomorrow’s lunch with traditional sauces. Don’t be afraid to order the house wine and the Calvados was such a lovely finale. The waiter (surely the owner! was attentive and very pleasant sans pretense or affectation. Next time I hope the strawberries are domestic. Don’t hesitate to have an enjoyable meal at Joie Grillades on Cook street!"
