"Great portion, food was hot but the eggs were not medium poached, the ham on the Benny was so thick it was hard to eat. And the potatoes were cut so big that they were raw on the inside. Benny sauce was good tho."

"I love this place! really great bread and pastries, and the staff are lovely. i find the bread here to be a really great price and ordering it is super quick and easy, and of course they can have it all sliced for you which is so helpful. most of their breads are vegan, and they're super accomodating and supportive regarding dietary restrictions and allergies."

"My wife and I were on a whirlwind 1.5 day visit to Vancouver Island. We wanted our only dinner to be special and French. After researching we settled on JOIE. We arrived at 7 and were promptly seated. We love to dine in the European style, unhurried. JOIE did not disappoint in this area. Our waiter was professional and elegant in his presentation. We started with a rose’ and the Salad de Salmon Fume’. Phenomenal, it was beyond anything I would have dreamed of. Subtle flavors blended perfectly with twice as much Salmon we would have expected. Along with the salad we had the bread plate.. the balsamic in the oil spelled JOIE!!We followed up the salad with our main course, the duck served 2 ways for 2. Tender breast meat served rare and on the bone dark meat served with a mustard sauce. Another well balanced plate that reminded me of the best meals I’ve had in Paris. For dessert the lava cake and espresso drinks capped off an ethereal evening. Our meal lasted 2.5 hours and we walked away not feeling overstuffed. The restaurant itself was elegantly austere, perfect."

"Very popular and busy coffee shop and restaurant. Staff constantly on the move except when they stop and cheerfully and patiently take an order or bring your coffee/meal. Generous portions and obviously satisfied customers as most of the diners appeared to be repeat customers. Shine is tucked away in a commercial/residential structure and not immediately obvious to those driving by. I would suggest, especially if you are looking for hearty breakfast, taking the time to find this gem. Don't be surprised if a bit of a wait it required."

"4 of us just had a really great meal there this evening. We went fairly early, and the service was amazingly quick and the sushi and meals excellent. The Panko breaded oysters were also a new treat and in my mind great value too. Ambiance is nothing to write home about but you know that before you sit down. Great local sushi option for sure! Thanks for being there!"

"Tasty beef ribs and a good quick meal. This is a fascinating little restaurant (previously the home of a Mediterranean deli), next to Tim Hortons in a small strip mall in Gordon Head. Plain tables sandwiched into a small space, with few large tables, and a large tv on the wall that shows off home construction shows. Not much ambiance here, but it's functional. They seem to have a fairly loyal clientele and are a busy and popular place. <br/ <br/ The food is good, cheap and quick..and conveniently located near to the University. The Pho is good but nothing special as others have noted. The large size is a very large portion (at least for me), and a good size meal. Not a lot of vegetables though; even if you request them to be added for the extra $1.25. You might find one or two more broccoli heads in there. <br/ <br/ The beef sandwich for $5.50 is convenient, a good value, quick and tasty. If you like it spicy, they add chilis and it can be fiery, and I like the beef ribs (although they are surprisingly cut as flat pieces with the bone cut cross-wise). <br/ <br/ Looks like a family run business; they seem friendly and are fairly quick to bring you a menu when you first sit down, or your bill when requested, but they don't rush you. They also do take-out."
