"We had the perfect Sunday afternoon at the Balmer lawn hotel. On a lovely sunny afternoon we enjoyed pre lunch drinks on the terrace, listening to live music in the Lodge outside restaurant. Very chilled atmosphere and an amazing female vocalist put us in a great frame of mind for our fabulous Sunday lunch in Beresfords restaurant, which didn't disappoint. If you like good size portions of well cooked and presented food, delivered with humour and professionalism then you will love this restaurant. Post dinner cocktails on the terrace rounded off the perfect day."

"Hotel Room Perfect, Location Wonderful, Cocktails 5*, Food didn’t match up. So, arrived on a B B deal. Upgraded the room and it was spectacular. Immediately super happy and relaxed. We also booked lunch dinner as it’s in the middle of the new forest on a rainy Jan day. We were only there for 24hrs so decided to settle in and enjoy. Lunch was nice. A good lunch but was on the 3 course deal, so I expected it to be restricted and it was but perfectly nice. We ordered a bottle of Chablis and just enjoyed the ambiance. There are bikes to enjoy so we have a quick explore for a few hours post lunch and then went for pre dinner cocktails. The cocktails were excellent. Perfect Bloody Mary and negroni. The staff changed after the first and so we thought the second might not be as good but they were also excellent. Very well trained bar staff. My disappointment came with dinner. It was the same menu as lunch and I had what I wanted at lunch. I was getting my second choice and it wasn’t enough choice to get excited. Biggest gripe was limited veg choice. Broccoli in butter was really the choice. I want choice ..,, left dinner underwhelmed and wishing we had ventured out for our second meal. Breakfast wonderful and staff too."

"We came for lunch on thursday 13th august and brought a polish friend spending time in england. when we arrived we had a drink in the bar, our table was booked for 1pm and we were not called into lunch untl we mentioned it and thought was nearer 1.30. we had the 19.50 lunch two courses, the starter was very poor, supposed to be beetroot and salmon salad but so small and no salad. the main course being rump of lamb, which consisted of a few slices of lamb on a bed of peas with a sprinkle of mint. no vegetables. we were not even asked if we would like vegetables. we had coffee in the lounge, i thought that coffee was included in the price , i mentioned to the waiter on having the bill, this was deducted. very expensive and poor, i was not impressed at all. i know we opted for the cheaper menu but still think it was poor value for money. i would not go for lunch again. i have had afternoon tea many times and alway enjoyed those and are good value. it is a lovely hotel."
