"Hmmm... the website considerably over sells. It states relaxing tranquility and luxury accommodation and rooms have been lovingly restored to complement the original oak beams and Executive Rooms are spacious with some rooms located on the ground floor providing doors opening directly onto our garden...and riverside watching the wildlife on the river and watching the sunset over the cathedral This was most definitely not the case. This was our night on a road trip round SW England and the last night was at The Rose and Crown. I tried to book night's at charming Inns We got a room here in what felt like a conference centre in a corner of the hotel with a small window of light (room To be honest it was very tired, bathroom had black mould and the view was of the car park, well actually slightly lower than the car park. I didn't book a table here for dinner as the restaurant didn't have a vibe, its a set up you'd expect from a standard basic chain hotel not an idyllic charming Inn. Really disappointed. We wanted to leave but decided not to ruin our last night. Maybe should've complained to the hotel on the night but I'm not confrontational and seriously what difference would it of made. I've paid for the room and don't expect a refund, but the hotel owner needs to have a serious look at room (and I assume one or two others), the surrounding corridors and reception area and then look at the description on the website. Be honest with yourself. Its very unusual for me to leave a bad review if you take a look at my previous."

"Just back from lunch at this quirky, lovely restaurant in the middle of Salisbury. The place is a one off. And the staff are excellent. Couldn’t do enough for us. There were only 2 on duty it was busy but they still had time to chat. The food was excellent. I had wild mushrooms with toast and a poached Duck egg. Excellent at only £11. My wife had a superb aubergine gratin at only £11.50. I would highly recommend this excellent restaurant come pub come bar come coffee house."

"Having tried to book Sunday lunch at three other pubs in the vicinity of Marlborough which were all fully booked, my friend and I were pleased that The Bell at West Overton had space for us. His roast beef and my roast lamb were tender and tasty and served with plenty of vegetables. We would definitely go there again."
