"Having eaten Indian Food across different Continents I was hoping that Malabar would live up to its culinary expectations. There is a marked difference between Northern and Southern Indian cuisine and the Malabar features South Indian specialties such as Dosai’s, a large selection of curries and some lovely side dishes. The Menu is very extensive so there's plenty of choice. We found the Service extremely good.It is slightly pricey. They do offer BYO which is a bonus. The main event is the Food which we all found excellent."

"Has been on my list of restaurants to visit for a long time and we finally made it. Didn't know you could book so we were very lucky to get the last two seats in the window perfect position for people watching. Lovely, warm,...sleek and cosy restaurant and welcoming, friendly service from the minute we opened the door. Waiter took my coat and seated us and was straight back with menus. We ordered wine by the glass from the very good wine list. Lots of interesting sounding cocktails but it was a red wine night. Loved the slim stemmed wine glasses. We loved the food. Very inventive and unusual and our favourite dish of the night was the pan fried gnocchi with lap cheong sausage with chilli. Soft, fluffy pillows of gnocchi generously coated in an umami rich kombu butter. Simple and really delicious. We also really liked the comte gourgere a big choir pastry puff with a delicious comte cheese. Heavenly aroma and very refined taste. We were also pleasantly surprised by the noise levels. For once we could hear ourselves talk. Hurray. Highly recommended."

"This part of Crown street has only a few eateries. Trunk Street is not easy to find, but persevere...it's worth it. They have a sign on the footpath. While we waited for the other 5 friends, we ordered curry fries to share. But by the time the others came, we finished off the curry fries and samosas....delicious. Then chicken wings.....delicious and then the roadies, butter chicken, lamb, paneer...alll good. Parking also good."

"Just so you know, we werr torn between giving the colonial a 3.5 or a 4... and i will explain why. We were kindly invited to the colonial so our score/review will not include pricepoints as we did not pay for our meal.<br> <br> I am crazy about 2 cruisines, indian and middle eastern. I love the spices, i love the flavour, i cant stand the heat but i keep going back for more. I think im pretty confident in my judgement of indian food.<br> <br> The colonial is more of an indian fusion, indian with a modern take. I had a tamarind martini and it was a bomb, a very unique and beautiful taste with a kick. Chicken tandoori salad was beautiful (the chicken was so tender and flavoursome), i loved the paneer spring roll!! Such a great idea. Oh and not to forget the watermelon and feta salad... that was a very interesting and bizarre dish. Not a typical indian dish but quite refreshing.<br> <br> I unfortunately wasnt too keen on the dessert and i love desserts, i have had kulfi many times but its never wowed me. The kulfi at the colonial was probably the best ive tried so far, however im not sold. I did not enjoy the malai i think its a strange acquired texture.. ive never tried thr malai before so i dont have anything to compare it to.<br> <br> Overall i enjoyed the food, i felt that what we tried were the more fusion dishes with some traditional dishes. I love that the colonial is being experimental and modernising indian cruisines to something everyone can enjoy. But me being me, i love traditional indian food (which the colonial do serve as well) and i dont think i would to ve honest order indian fusion other than perhaps the martini and paneer spring roll. On the other hand, sam would definitely order the fusion dishes. Id give the colonial 4 for innovation, however just based on what i had that night, i enjoyed it, it was yummy, but it didnt quite hit home run for me<br> <br> <br><br><a href="https://www.zomato.com/spoonback?u=http%3A%2F%2Ftheweekendfoodieeats.blogspot.com&amp;r=29307530&amp;to=25254883&amp;k=507c89983807c1c0e06b243ca9d302fe" target="_blank"><span class="left red-text">theweekendfoodieeats.blogspot.com</span><span class="grey-text left ml5" data-icon="ŧ"></span></a>"

"No bad Japanese restaurant, though nothing more spectacular. We found out that the Chirarshi-Bowl needed more variety, and that the sushi and the Sashimi did not get the fresheste."
