"This is everything a great cafe in a very small provincial town should be popular with the locals and cyclists but special enough to make it a go to destination for folk who live a little further away. This weekend we had the smoked...haddock chowder and the mushrooms with spinach and a (stunning) poached egg on sourdough with truffle oil. The food is home made on the premises, tastes fresh and uses local produce where possible, and it's food that just makes you want to lick the plate (even f someone is watching because you know they would understand The cakes are delicious and the menu is restricted to a few (mostly light) dishes but you leave satisfied and with a smile on your face. As it should be. Prices are very fair and there is some limited table seating on the pavement as well as inside. What a joy to have this near where we live."

"Booked a table outside at the Royal Mackintosh on Saturday.. What a fabulous place to go for a few drinks.. Excellent service from very approachable, efficient, friendly staff. I wasn’t sure how to use the App but the staff were very helpful and kept me...on the right track.. My friends and I tried the Gin Surprise Cocktail Pitcher which was fantastic. Everything very clean, hygienic and well sign posted re restrictions which was very re assuring as it was our first time out since lockdown."

"Stunning hotel in fab location. unfortunately our room was not ready and we had to wait over our check-in. no offer a cup of coffee while we waited. some employees really helpful and nice other employees absolutely indifferent. the room was nice but small. standard with the coffee machine and shower. the hair dryer did not work. that could not really judge as five stars."

"After a lovely time exercising our dogs in the beautifully secure 'Smeaton Dogwood ' we were ready for a cuppa, but the sound of Cauliflower and Mature Cheddar soup, served with a cheese scone was just TOO tempting. Boy were they a good combination!! Great service, this place is just such a find. We have a bit of thing about cheese scones and these got an A+ rating cheese on top and loads of cheese inside too. Served nicely warm with a pat of butter for each half. Others should learn from you!!"
