"Stopped off for a quick bite to eat before Parc Guell, opted for the Menu del dia. I opted for the Arroz Campero (kind of like paella but with chicken and ham), my girlfriend went for the timbale of vegetables, with both of us opting...for pulpo alla gallega (octopus with potatoes). Starters were both the excellent, the pulpo was quite good, if a little salty (although this appeared to be simply the staff being a little over zealous with the final seasoning. The Menu of the day also included a dessert (creme caramel), fruit or coffee (cafe con leche), plus a drink (I had beer, my girlfriend had a rather nice glass of white wine). All in all, for each, and being served the entire meal in its entirety in around mins (we were on a tight schedule), couldn't fault it."

"The daily menu is only 11.25 that includes first and main course, desert or coffee wine beer or water. It is owned by a delightfully kind and hospitable Galician PEPE and is popular among Spanish professionals working in the neighborhood as well and Spanish police from the nearby station. American tourists have not yet discovered this gem in he center of Barcelona (except me, of course). I went every day for their special lunch menu. So far, I’ve tried the arroz caldoso which is a Paella-like dish that I could eat every day; it is that delicious. Another day I tried a typical Catalan dish known as Trynxat which is a dish from the Pyrenees made with potatoes, cabbage pork, resembles Bubble Squeak. The name, meaning “mashed” or “chopped”, is the past participle of the Catalan word trinxar, which means to slice . For the main course, one day I had the merluza (hake) cooked in a delicious butter sauce with varied fresh vegetables. Hake is quite a mild fish, with a white flaky texture and a flavour that is more subtle than that of cod. When cooked, hake becomes firm and meaty....delicious. On my return I tried the superb homemade chicken croquettes and my friend had the Lacón con Patatas which is a traditional ham based dish from Galicia; another exquisite home cooked lunch option. The deserts are equally delicious and homemade. On the first day I had the traditional Spanish torrijas which is similar to what would be warm French toast with a homemade anisette sauce with cinnamon. Torrijas is one of my favorite desserts and their version is spectacular. The second day I had the tradition creme caramel or flan as it is known in Spain. From the first bite, you could tell it was homemade and fresh, Their house wine which is included with each specially priced lunch menu is just fine although I usually prefer water and my friend prefers a beer. In addition to their top 11.25 euro lunch menu, there are lower priced options if you just want a main dish with dessert or coffee and a drink. There is also an extensive a-La-cart menu should you want to order a large Paella or Arroz Caldozo which I would recommend. The portions are so generous that if you order a Paella or Arroz Caldozo for two, three can easily share it. This is a great find if you want to enjoy a reasonably priced lunch menu in Barcelona that is well served, fresh and delicious. You know it is good because It is filled with locals, Jose, the owner, will help you navigate the lunch options and will ensure that your visit to Os Ancares will be your best meal when in Barcelona. For those on a cruise, you can easily take a taxi and get to the restaurant. Here are also multiple metro lines that are near Os Ancares. But if you are staying in the center of Barcelona, near Plaza Cataluña or Paseo de Gràcia, you can easily walk to this hidden gem."
