"I hadn't been here in over 40 years; was surprised that it still existed. This is a true old French haunt; was once quite special and now it's special in that it wears its age as would a vielle dame, faded but still proud in her well worn but cared for habillement. I would recommend this place for a simple, good meal in a place that has survived in a world where so many have failed. There's no pretension here, though there may be a hint of that French hauteur."

"In the south of the 15th arrondissement, the bistro La Cantine des Tontons offers a local cuisine with a buffet at will, in a host atmosphere. The reception by the Breton manager and his Japanese Chinese woman (from which the nems and saké in the barrel on the bar is friendly. The setting is warm with the china decoration (coucou, hunting trophies, former cooker... , photos and paintings (Venise, portrait of the woman of the restaurant... , bottle lockers, large tables to share. We get up for the entrance, the dish and the cheese and eat at the right franquette. On the menu: entrance buffet, 2 daily dishes, cheese plate and a dessert among a wide choice Good value for money!"

"Tout d'abord, la serveuse (patronne ?) est très sympathique. Le restaurant est propre et moderne. Il y a pas mal d'attentions : petite assiettes de grignotages pour accompagner l'apéritif, un excellent digestif maison et même un stylo pour rappeler les coordonnées du restau. Sinon, le principe est simple : les plats peu nombreux, mais cuisinés sur place (c'est à dire ne sortant pas de Metro) sont organisés suivant "D'ici ou d'ailleurs" : d'ici ce sont des plats traditionnels français (ex boeuf aux carottes), tandis que d'ailleurs sont des plats africains. Nous avons pris des plats africains : viande bien cuisinée, mais accompagnée d'un bol de riz blanc: cela aurait mérité un peu de sauce à part pour agrémenter le riz. Les desserts par contre étaient quelconques. Attention aussi à l'attente : nous étions très peu nombreux et avons cependant attendu déjà un bon moment avant d'avoir le menu. Par ailleurs les plats du jour que nous avons pris, affichés sur la grande ardoise ne comportent pas de prix... surprise donc à la fin"
