"Our service was terrible, our food was sub-par. A few hours later our whole party got food poisoning, of varying degrees. We all had different things on the menu, but still got sick. The worst restaurant in Puebla."

"During one of my group study abroad trips to Puebla, we were looking for a good restaurant for a post-dinner rush meal. I'm thrilled that the majority of our group chose to go to a seafood restaurant, as I was quite curious as to how it would taste down here in central Mexico. Fisher's came to us highly recommended by our trip guide, and as it was located on the main street of Avenida Juarez right by our hotel, we thought it was the perfect choice. We got there about an hour before close, and even with a big group, the host seated us and the waitstaff quickly attended to us, even though most of us only had broken Spanish. Thankfully, the waiter spoke enough English to help us with the small things, while the two professors in our group helped us translate the large menu. I am a big sucker for pasta dishes, along with shrimp, though I was also looking for something new. Because, well, I'm in Mexico! During my two one-week trips to Puebla and Mexico City, I've ate an American meal exactly once, and only because it was a mall and I was starving. My motto when traveling: when in Mexico / Poland / etc, eat local food! One of the pasta options was translated to me as "squid ink pasta with shrimp." That immediately sparked my interest! I stopped looking at everything else they had, placed my order, and kept telling the group what I was having! Sure, I was excited about trying something new, but honestly, I was kinda expecting that that is all I was going to do - was just "trying" it. At the moment, I didn't completely think that I was going to eat every bite of squid, ink, pasta. The shrimp, yes. But the squid ink? Ink?! I just wanted to be different - everyone else played it safe. Not me, and that's what I wanted my reputation to be on this trip.Take a look at my pictures. My large bowl of black "soup" arrived, along with 2 warm flour tortillas and a side of guacamole. There were several pieces of shrimp in my meal, with some yellow and green toppings atop the black ink. I mixed the pasta all together, observed the texture, taking a smell, and thinking about what I possibly got myself into. Tortillas are my ride-or-die side food, as I like making sandwiches out of my main meal by using tortillas. I put a few shrimp and spoonfuls of ink into a cooked tortilla, and gave it a shot. It turns out ... it was delicious! There was a nice spice and flavor to it, and the shrimp was pretty fresh and nicely grilled. I finished my next tortilla and then ate every last bite of my meal (after sharing a bit with anyone who was interested). Yes, it looks unappealing in eating a dark mud-colored dish, and even less so when you find out that its ink from a squid, but it is a popular dish throughout the world (much to my surprise) and the better restaurants know how to make it flavorful! I ate it all, and did my best in slurping up the soupy pasta. I am still very proud of myself for ordering something I had an interest in "trying" but none whatsoever in finishing. Have a little bit of courage while traveling! One reason why I reviewed this restaurant as only 4 stars stems from how the night ended, when we were pooling our money to pay the check and were surprised that there was a ~20% gratuity tax / tip. Nowhere in the menu was this stated, and if it was, we would've split our group of 10 into 2 tables. I understand that it was nice enough of them to serve a large group towards the end of the night, but that's what a tip is for. If you are unknowlingly forced into paying a tip, in addition to the customary tip, that doesn't leave a good taste in a guest's mouth. We still left a tip, though less happily.I would visit Fisher's for another lunch or dinner meal, especially to try something you can't exactly get (or at a good price) in the U.S., but we would be cautious about going with such large a group."
