"Other than the location, this restaurant needs improvement. For example, when asked over the phone if the menu was up to date, it was not when we got there. Supposedly the clam chowder was their pride and joy, but the soup was watery and lacked favor served in chipped bowls looked and tasted more like potatoes soup. Also, the menu lacks clarity on alcoholic and non alcoholic beer should create a separate line item for non alcoholic items. The most disturbing feature there was disturbing number of flies and birds constantly landing on the tables and food, perhaps see through screens could be installed for health reasons. You can find other places that serve better food and pleasing ambience on the Big Island of Hawaii."

"6/17/2023 Kona Canoe Club Kona Inn Shopping Village 75-5744 Alii Dr Ste 21 Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 I went looking for a light dinner while in Kailua. This sandwich and salad place fit the bill since their limited menu featured a Traditional Tossed Caesar Salad . I sat myself down on the patio which has a nice view of the pier. I ordered the chicken version and the waitress said it would be a minute due to staffing issues. That was a euphemism for a half hour, but I was on vacation so I just enjoyed the cool breeze and view. The salad was plated well but I could immediately tell the Romaine was not fresh by the browning of the cuts. But thanks to refrigeration technology, the lettuce was still crispy. The chicken was a little dry, not very well seasoned but edible. The croutons came out of a bag, the Parmesan was skimpy and the dressing was equally applied; when I was done the plate was very clean. There is much room for improvement for this salad and I should have started by asking for more dressing on the side. It also seemed like my waitress was going through the motions and not really engaged. I cannot recommend and will not repeat."

"Inside Royal Kona Resort. Try Don's Mai Tai bar. Open seating. Fantastic views, great music (albeit from a CD) ...and hands down: best Mai Tais in town. For happy hour, try the coconut shrimp. We also ordered the cheeseburger, mahi taco fishwich. All really good! Had the Lava Torte for dessert. Tastey, but the lava flowed more from the top than the middle, but really, that happens a lot with this type of dessert... would probably prefer again but a la mode (doesn't come with ice cream). They validate parking ticket from the parking lot of the Royal Kona resort if you buy drink/food (validation good for up to 2 hours). If you're handicapped and have a placard, there's a few free handicapped parking spots in the roundabout right in front of the Royal Kona Resort (where the valet guy is). We were there for Happy Hour sunset and even caught a glimpse of their luau (on a Wednesday). We tried going there again Thursday night but the place was packed early due to some type of event. Several tables were reserved, which was different from the day before where it was all open seating. May try again tomorrow. The Mai Tais there are worth every effort!"

"Nice open seat. Friendly attentive server started us with a few brews. I had the dark coconut beer I enjoyed as a novelty. Then the Kua Bay had IPA, which was excellent. For dinner we had Naahehu (charged) Nachos and a small Captain Pizza. Both were very good and filled us."
