"We were lucky enough to dine in Holla for brunch on the last day before Melbourne headed back into isolation again. Holla we’re operating on a reduced menu which you access via the yum QR code. Their all day breakfast menu had some seriously tempting dishes but interestingly not a single sweet brunch dish on offer (sweet is definitely out thing) so we both opted for a burger. My burger, the Holla beef burger came with a mountain of cheese and was a real classic with a patty cooked medium with pink in the centre. KD’s Korean fried chicken burger was a spicy affair with a asian slaw. We shared some pre isolation fries. <br/ <br/ I ordered the berry smoothie and this was one pretty drink. Holla was doing everything right with social distancing and hopefully are doing a bumper take away trade in the coming weeks.<br/ <br/ <br/ Previous Review<br/ We were invited back to Holla to try the autumn/winter menu. Though it appears deceptively small it’s actually quite huge on the inside with plenty of greenery makes you feel like you are sitting outside in a garden, but a warm garden and not the horrid winter weather outside today.<br/ <br/ The menu still had quite a few favourites from the last visit but we noticed quite a few swaps which we focused on today (see my previous review below which outlines some of the great dishes still on the menu from our last visit)<br/ <br/ We ordered the house roasted coffees to start, long black came with a side of soda water to cleans the palate. <br/ <br/ Today we started with the Quinoa, chia pistachio milk porridge with coffee banana jam, poached figs, toasted almonds, it was simply delicious, a lovely soft quinoa texture was sensationally paired with the crunch of the toasted almonds and the sweetness of the pistachio milk and then when adding some coffee and banana jam to the mix, bam the flavours explode. <br/ <br/ We also ordered the Holla hippie “burger”, which contained a herbed crumbed haloumi, pickled beets, rhubarb jam, mixed greens, kasundi relish on a brioche roll with a side of the divinely herbed salted hand-cut chips and creamy aioli that wasnt to heavy on the garlic, just perfect for the brunch palate. The haloumi had crunch and the rhubarb jam was a sweet surprise. The beetroot added quite a strong pickle taste to this dish. <br/ <br/ For dessert we shared the Croffle s’mores which was a croissant waffles w raspberry pistachio parfait, strawberry curd, fresh berries, pistachio crumb and rose syrup. OMG OMG OMG how have I never had a croffle before, quite frankly the waffle croissants is my new favourite way to eat a croissant. The delicate strawberry and rose flavours of this dish was simply sublime and the varying textures of crunchy pistachio crumb to soft and fluffy parfait combined with the croissant pastry have sent my tastebuds to heaven. Definitely my dish of the day. <br/ <br/ Service was yet again incredible and we really enjoyed our second visit. Thanks so much for having us.<br/ <br/ <br/ <br/ Original Review Oct-17: omitting dishes no longer available<br/ <br/ I’ve seen Holla as we whip through Richmond on our occasional drive into town. Always intrigued by somewhere new I was very happy to be invited to try their new spring/summer menu. It felt like a greenery with hanging ferns and creeping plants and an industrial high roof with opaque perspex roofing to filter in the sunshine. It was quite a long space, with smaller dining options at front and outside and caged areas to house larger groups. <br/ <br/ Right away I knew we were in for a treat when I read the breakfast cocktail and boozy milkshakes menu. I ordered my first cocktail before 11 I chose the Lychee Mojito with my favourite white liquor (Gin). This was strong and very very drinkable. The Nutella Frangelico boozey shake also tasted mighty fine. I suspect you would never know there was alcohol in there until you went to get up and go and your legs didn’t work. <br/ <br/ Our table shared a variety of breakfast dishes, the standouts for me were the DIY smashed avocado and poached eggs breakfast. This came with a handy muddler to pulverise some of that pent up aggression on the poor avocado, feta and chilli combo. This dish was smashing good fun (pun intended). <br/ <br/ There was a well portioned salmon salad, impressively tender lamb salad and a very clever play on Pork Benedict, in oozey burger style. This was visually impressive but I didn’t get to try it. Seriously seriously oozing <br/ <br/ I also tried the “Seoul Food” BBQ Pork tacos which was perhaps my least favourite dish. I found the pork quite dry unfortunately and the corn tortillas also a little dry (brittle). <br/ <br/ Service was prompt and staff were very good at dealing with several large groups as well as a fully packed cafe. Would definitely come back on my own back as this cafe is up there with the best that Richmond dining has to offer."
