"My favourite Indian restaurant in Ottawa for 20 years or more. Always good food. Great staff. So happy they appear to have survived the past few years."

"I ordered takeout from this place four times now and each time it was awesome! This place really is a hidden gem as not many people know about it but I'm sure the word is spreading quickly.Last night I ordered the karahi chicken and chick pea chana masala, along with some vegetable samosas. The karahi chicken is my favourite - it's very flavourful and cooked perfectly. The chickpea chana masala is great too as it is spicy enough but not too spicy where you cannot enjoy it. If you don't eat much spicy food then you may think it's too spicy. The nan they provide is amazing and next time I'll ask them to give a few extra pieces. Lastly, the samosas are awesome and next time I'll look to try another type. Overall, the portion sizes are great and so is the value. I'll definitely go back to this place next time I'm in the mood for Indian food. Everything is fresh and the service is very good. I just hope they keep everything as is so that they continue to make amazing food!"

"The food: is decent and has an authentic taste. I also enjoyed the spice in it (I had a Very Hot dish - the Lamb Madras;) however, my partner did not because she could not handle spice very well and the menu only had 3 options for the Milk Dishes. But I think the flavour and spiciness of the food were very well-done, from an Indian-food perspective.Take-out service: When I arrived to get my food, one of the owners looked at me strangely as if they were not expecting customers or so. They asked me what I needed and I said I had made an order. They looked through all of their receipts and data on their ipad, then asked me if I called or ordered online. I said online and it had already been paid for. Then without no confirmation or further questions, they kept looking and ran into the kitchen. The other owner told me to wait a bit. In about 5 minutes or so, they came out with a food bag and told me that was mine. The strange things were that, they never asked for my name, what I ordered, and never provided a receipts with the food. I was cautious and checked the food before I left but the pick-up process was not so pleasant. The food portion and the price: The portion was very small for the price of the food. We ordered the "Main dishes," one Lamb Madras and one Chicken Bhoona. Each came in the medium-sized styrofoam (16oz) and each cost at least $13 each (without rice or naan bread.) We also ordered the appetizer Shaami Kebab, which was supposed to come with onion rings, tomato and lemon wedges. It did not come with these sides and the appetizer contained 2 pieces (which were not stated in the menu).Overall, I find that although Golden Indian offered very tasty food, the price is quite high for how much food we got. We have our other usual go-to places where offer similarly tasty food at similar price, but much larger portions that a group can actually share if we were to order multiple main dishes. Hence it is unlikely that I will order from this place again. Plus the pick-up service also made it seem like they did not make an effort to keep customers."

"Stopped in here for lunch with some friends and was not disappointed. The naan is freshly prepared and all the items are made in house. Prices were very reasonable and service was extremely friendly. I'd come back!"

"Excellent food, friendly hosts. We've been to many Indian Restaurants in Ottawa and Toronto and we always go back to Taj. For the past 5 years, Taj is the only place we will now go to."

"The Ottawa Citizen put out an article this past week about five well priced Restaurants in Ottawa and Bilal's Kabab was one of them, so we decided to check them out today. Although I live pretty close by I actually hadn't noticed them there yet the owner says they've been around since the fall of 2015. I'm glad we made the discovery today!Hubby and I ordered the Bilal Wrap. One Beef Shami Kabab l($9.99) and one Chicken Tikka Kabab ($10.99). It is served on Afghan Naan with lettuce, tomato, onion and garlic aioli and served with garlic roasted potatoes and additional aioli for dipping. The Naan is wonderful and really makes a difference. It is baked fresh and is light and airy with a bit of a chew, a perfect serving vehicle for the wrap.I loved my Chicken tikka, and it came with lots of chicken. Hubby enjoyed the Beef Shami (ground hamburg and spices) and the potatoes were very flavourful and yummy. There was plenty of food, infact I couldn't finish all of mine. Service was great. The ambiance is pretty much what you'd expect in a strip mall location but it was clean and bright and the booths very comfortable. The owner came to chat with us when we were done and we very much enjoyed hearing of his venture. He takes a lot of pride in his business, as well he should. The menu is large and we will totally go back. Want to try some of the lamb dishes, the starters (the Samosa and Bolani, flat bread stuffed with potato and green onion and served with a yogurt sauce), the Qormas and their Butter Chicken and of course test out their weekday buffet. Parking in this mall is hard at lunch time but we parked across the street in the Metro Mall and just walked over.It was a very yummy lunch. A fun discovery!"
