"Booked for a wee treat during the eat in to help out scheme now I wish I wouldn 't have helped. Took about an hour for the food to arrive and it was not a large order, just some starters and a main. The food quality in general was poor, the garlic bread was appalling for the price, this wasn 't worth nearly £3. Sauces and a side were forgotten and we needed to ask the waiter for cutlery and napkins. It seemed as there were no social distancing standards for staff in place and we were not asked to register for the track and trace scheme. The only notice for that was a small sign at the door. I can 't recommend this place and according to other recent reviews it definitely needs improvement!"

"Not in the rule one for the submission of reviews online, but, after the last night tee (special satay) bought from china palace, I had to simply. pretty likely the best worth and best tasting Chinese meal I have ever eaten. so refreshing to eat a sauce that did not begin as a powder. I will be definitiw again for more from now on!"

"Lovely staff and great service. The vegan breakfast was delicious, filling and well presented. Service was quick, Charlotte was friendly and attentive The only thing that would have made it better would have been a butter knife for the toast but that is a very minor gripe. Shall be returning!"

"Waited at bar for minutes no eye contact from the staff who chatted among themselves while one made coffee then served an older man who called for a beer. Barmaid must have saw me at that point but didn't acknowledge me. I got fed up and went across the road to another bar where I was served immediately in a friendly manner. I won't be back in the Auld Hole -very poor service particularly in a town that draws visitors"

"We were seated in the dining area at the back of the (noisy) pub, a room with some memorabilia on the walls, referring to the old days of the house in which the pub is located. This may be referred to as “pub food”, but this place actually serves pretty good meals. Fantastic fish chips and the sirloin steak was also very nice. The panna cotta and the apple pie with ice cream were equally tasty. Down-to-earth dishes, but well prepared and tasty. Flawless service. Good address for a simple but decent dinner."
