"After wandering downtown Cozumel, my girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place and decided to give it shot. After going up one of the innumerable spiral staircases that most buildings here sport, we were greeted with a decent (but unspectacular) view and a friendly staff. Most of the menu was very expensive, and we decided to share a plate and appetizer, which it turns out was more than enough to feed us. I just feel it would be a problem if you came with people unwilling to share. The cuisine was Northern Italian, with lots of seafood on the menu. The lobster alfredo was very good.While the food was good, it just didn't seem worth the price. The flower salesmen and guitar players they let in we're mildly annoying and for a slow night, service seemed to be a little lacking."

"We stop by here for a drink almost every time we're in Cozumel. They make pretty good Mojitos and a lot of oversized frozen drinks. If you're out walking the square it's a good place to go and cool off on a hot day. Almost always seems to be a breeze blowing there."

"Mondongo was delicious! It was like having menudo and gumbo. The chorizo, chickpeas, and green leaves were a great special combo. I would come back for that! Good prices! Our waitress was nice enough to call for our taxi."

"This restaurant is wonderful overall! Everything we tried was wonderful except for one dish, and we ate there multiple times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My family's favorites though, were breakfast and dinner. The breakfasts are big with a large variety of American, Mexican and Continental offerings, and it was very reasonably priced. It is an amazing place to watch the sunset, and, in the evening, they have a guitar player that is incredible! The service in the morning was not excellent. It seemed a challenge for the waiter to bring us more coffee. The service in the afternoon and evening, especially with Angelica (I think that is her name - it is a female version of Angel) was exceptional! She even came down to the pool to take orders in the afternoon when she was working...she was wonderful!"

"This was my third trip to Cozumel and each time I dine at New Especias twice during my stay. From the outside the restaurant is a very humble looking place on the second floor of building on a side street off the main plaza, but inside is very nice and the food is delicious. Francesco who is the owner and chef is an excellent in both roles. Francesco is from Rome and is dedicated to preparing food in the traditional Italian fashion. Do not expect the heavily sauced and overly spiced fare that is typical of US Italian restaurants; the sauces are light, and Francesco uses a gentle blend of a minimal number of spices so as to enhance the main ingredient(s) not overpower them. Over the years, I have eaten the Seafood fettuccine, Gnocchi with lionfish, and Lemon sauce and curry lionfish and all have been superb. There are pizza and other offerings for those seeking something more familiar.There are three or four tables on an outside balcony for those who want to people watch, and there is ample indoor seating that can accommodate large groups. I look forward to returning to Cozumel next summer, and when I do New Especias will be my first stop for dining."

"It is hard to find this butcher shop located away from the main drag. We keep coming back to this very simple place for mixed grill every time we are on Cozumel. It is fresh and tasty."
