"I had high hopes for this restaurant its fair to say it strives to be a 'Fine dining ' establishment but it sadly fails, the food is fine and but the service not so, we had a pre starter and then a starter both were quite sizable maybe a bit too sizable, but its the speed of delivery and the table service that makes me not want to return, and that is a shame as we live locally and are quite happy to spend £50 £60 a head and do so frequently The waitress was pleasant and chatty ' as you would expect but she needs basic training, we arrived at 7.00 pm and heading home at 8.00 pm having had 4 courses, our waitress was very keen to clear our plates even while some of our party were still eating presumably because the starter was lined up ready to go, almost immediately the starter came out leaving a 30 second gap to recover from the large pre starter,, I could see where this was going and as she cleared the plates from those of us that had just finished but still swallowing I said could we please have a break to enjoy the wine and let our food 'go down ' she said sorry chef has the mains ready to go,, so out it came and same hurried anxious get it down you and clear off feeling returned, to summarise the whole experience took just under an hour, to add to this at the very end of this speed eating we wanted another drink but she 'disappeared ' we she did return we paid and left, we had a drink at home which is where I should have stayed in the first place! I am disappointed because it is expensive and it could be a great place but they hit the post on basics, its rushed full of stress and even in an entry level 'greasy spoon ' they do not clear your table while you are still eating."

"Avoid at all costs. Without a doubt, the curries were appalling. Words cannot describe either the chicken or the 'prawn '. Probably the worst pub meal we 've ever had. The waitress was charming."

"The professional cast crew of the touring theatre show Pearls from The Grit had an outstanding fish chip late lunch early supper in between matinee and evening performances. 11 VERY satisfied diners thank you for making our big group so very welcome and for feeding us so very well."

"We attended the Hall for Afternoon Tea, having visited for yummy cakes and drinks previously on our local walk. The Afternoon tea itself was presented extremely well and was very tasty, with a varied selection of sweet and savoury. Venue was stunning and clean. Worth mentioning the ease of booking as well via email. Only thing lacking was staff communication and finesse. We received milk in a jug which had loose tea floating in it. This was quickly resolved albeit served in the same jug just dripping with water from where it had been rinsed. Fairly attentive throughout (including choice of music! and anything we asked for was served quickly. We were told by one member of staff the table wouldn’t be needed so could stay, only to be told a short while later by another member of staff, we would need to move table or vacate for the evening sitting. Final confusion came when it was time to pay the bill, a number of items were missed off and this was blamed on another member of staff. This was quickly resolved although still thought to be unprofessional. A few small tweaks and I would happily award the final stars"

"We arrived at the Village Maid and were made welcome by the staff. I ordered Fish Pie but what came up was nothing like a fish pie . Normally it’s cooked in its own individual bowl and you can then order sides to go with it .What came up was peas, cabbage , a large piece of broccoli , a few bits of fish floating in a very bland sauce , with a dollop of warm mash placed on top . It didn’t have any flavour and shouldn’t have been described as fish pie . I would never have ordered this had I have known what was going to be served . When the waiter came back to take our plates he asked us if everything was ok . I told him what I’ve said here that it can hardly be described as fish pie as it was just not cooked the way a fish pie is . He said that he had received feedback like that before and that the wording on the menu should be changed . So my point is why are they still describing it as fish pie!! It’s misleading to say the least , very disappointed with the food here"
