"We had walked by this restaurant many times and always thought it looked nice. As we had tickets to a local event we decided to book a table at the captains place on Sunday 12th October for 8 people as it was near to where we had to be. When we arrived there was only about four other people in there so it was nice and quiet. We sat there for a while then about 15mins later the waiter bought the menu over. I looked at the menu and realised this was not the menu that I had been told over the phone. When I asked the waiter about another menu he looked very blank at me so he went and got the chef who then apologised and said I was told the wrong menu over the phone. So ok not to much of a problem. The waiter then returned 30mins later to take our first drinks order, when he was asked for a southern comfort he said ' sorry we don 't sell it ' our reply to that was so what is that bottle on the shelf over there ? in all honesty his understanding Was terrible . So after waiting nearly 40 mins for our drinks he then took our food order. Only 3 of us had a starter and there was no problem with that, it was very nice. Then the main course was bought out, it looked very nice when it arrived and that 's where it ended, we had 6 roast dinners they where cold, the veg was really hard, the roast potatoes where well over done and you had a job to cut them it was if the potatoes had been reheated from earlier , the Yorkshire pub was burnt. There was just nothing good about this meal what so ever. I did call the waiter over when he bought the meals out and told him about the meals, yet again he did not seem to understand our problem so he went and got the chef. I then explaind to the chef what our complaint was and he said he would go and get the manager. I said to the chef that if we had time to go somewhere else to eat then we would of because the food was terrible. In all honesty we all picked at our food but most of the food was left on the plates. The waiter came back and cleared our table by this time we had still seen no sight of the manager. So I had to ask again for him. From the time we first asked for the manager it was about 45 mins. Finally the manager came over I explained my concerns about the meal he did offer to take 20% off the bill but as we did not eat the food we did not see why we should pay for something that we did not have. We would of been quite willing to pay for the starters and the drinks and the 2 other main meals but we where not happy to pay for the roast dinners. But the manager got quite abrupt and this made us feel very uncomfortable so we ended up paying the bill and leaving. We r going to reports this inncident to the environmental health as we feel the food was not at a standard to be served in a restaurant. It is a must say that we will never be eating at this restaurant again"
